Planning first trip to LMF between now and Christmas. My research says good access points are Evening Hole and Old Park Dam but I'm not able to locate them on any map...Google or otherwise. If I can't find them, PB Falls will be my go to spot...seems easy to find.
Any help and advise will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

PB Falls is probably the most difficult access point to actually find. It involves dirt roads and a few easy to miss turns.

For a first time trip, I'd suggest just staying inside Beaver's Bend park. That is where the Evening Hole is located. There is a lot water access inside the park, but between Spillway Creek and the Evening Hole area you can spend a lot of time exploring and fishing. Stop by one of the fly shops in the area and pick up a park map when you get there.

Not a good idea to try to fish PB falls if it is your first time. Go to Spillway Creek or evening hole. The Evening Hole is contained between 2 bridges on OK 259a.

It would be a great idea to read the full thread on here - it may be 16 pages long or so, but it is full of information about the Lower Mountain Fork. Flies, areas, maps, etc are all contained in the thread.

To get to Evening Hole and Spillway Creek - Oklahoma 259 to the 2nd Beavers Bend Exit (just before Hochatown), go about 3 miles, cross the dam, just before you cross the dam a 2nd time, veer right toward the Beavers Bend Nature Trail. At the bottom of the hill is the first bridge. Above the Bridge is Spillway Creek (Blue Zone). It runs 1.5 miles all the way to the dam. Below the bridge is a Red Zone, Catch and release mainly. The main area just downstream of the bridge is Cold Hole (BLue Zone). About 1/2 mile downstream is another bridge. Below the bridge is blue zone, above is Red. The Red Zone is commonly referred to as the Evening Hole area. I know the LMF thread has several links to maps for your reference.

Old Park dam is flooded every few hours or so from generation.

I had my first trip there back in September. Some of the slickest rocks I've yet come across.
I had recently switched from felt soles to the latest wonder tread wading boots.
A wading staff and studs would have been a godsend.

Hi Zip. To emphasize a couple of Jeff's directions:
You definitely want the 2nd turn to the park. The first one is the obvious park entrance. You don't want it. Go another couple/three miles on the Highway. There's a paved road to the right and some kind of sign but less obvious maybe. Turn there.

Go about 3 miles. You'll cross a small dam. It's called "The Spillway". It's the top of "Spillway Creek". There's good fishing there. If you cross the Spillway there's a parking lot with a kiosk in it. If you walk down the hill there's good fishing in the holes there. I think it's called "Cardiac Hill", for obvious reasons although it's not that bad to me.

But that's not what you want for now. Go another mile or so on the main road. You'll come to the main dam which is an obvious big dam. But, just as you're coming to it, a little road dives down the hill to your right. Take it. It follows Spillway Creek down the hill. Go all the way down to the bridge over Spillway Creek. Park there with the other cars. Upstream is Spillway Creek. Great pocket water and fast runs. I get lost up there sometimes. Downstream is the "Red Zone", slower runs and pools. It's more like meadow fishing in Montana (I think). They're both great, but different in style. If you walk down through the Red Zone about a half mile, past "The Bluffs" (obvious), you'll come to the "Evening Hole" which is the really cool meadow-like fishing hole.

You can also keep going in your car and come to a parking lot by the EH that way, but parking in the first area you can fish Spillway and the Red Zone and never have to move your car all day. That's what I normally do.

It all hold lots of trout. Enjoy.

The report from the folks at Beavers Bend Fly shop coincides with the Rob Woodruff report. The river is at "normal pool" and the fishing is considered excellent. I'm stoked.

Hey everyone, do you see the "Group Camp #2" in the center of the map above? Right there in the middle between the Evening Hole and the Fly Shop?

That is where the Red River Rendezvous will be held in January.

You should add that event to your calendars, I don't think you can find a better location in this area for fly fishing and tying event.

Does a crushed barb equal barbless in these waters. I have been told that if a crushed barb cannot be put through a shirt without hanging up the game warden does not consider it barbless. I may have to go shopping...darn it

That is exactly what Mark H (one of the game wardens there) will tell you. He doesn't mind you bending them and might ask you to put them through your shirt. He prefers the barbs being filed off but we always just bend ours.

Generally bending is OK. If they see an attempt to smash the barb, they will let it slide. They may ask you to smash a little better.

RED Zone - No bait, no attractants, no scents, no barbs. Red Zone goes from Lost Creek Diversion bridge all the way to the Evening Hole Bridge. Little LOst Creek is Red as well.

Woodruff updates a few of the sections. It will be flowing at 100CFS, mostly clear, and likely about 50-58 degrees. That report will likely stay on 'Excellent' from now till Spring Break at least. Ignore the flies posted there and read this blog. Must haves are small midges, caddis, and eggs.
