They would really help when we are in a drought like this. Rain is what we need most though, I guess.

Instead of a couple large lakes that take up tons of acres how about more smaller lakes that each city uses for water?

Don't know about the ground water issue but people could at least see how their usage is affecting things. Might make them abide by restrictions during times like this.

Small lakes woukd be a good idea, but there are a few big problems with it. The biggest problem with building small local lakes, at least for north dfw, is that most cities are in a contract with a water district that won't expire for another 30 years or so. They are locked in for the long haul, for better or worse. Also, these cities do not have a water treatment plant to treat the water either. They would have to break the contract, build a reservoir, and build a treatment plant, which would skyrocket people's water bill even more than the water district's rising rates do.
Lower Bois D'Arc will get built, even if the locals in Fannin County are against it. That project is too far along to be stopped at this point - even if it takes a state bill to get it done in the end. The land owners will change their tune when their property values quadruple after they suddenly own lakefront and lakeview property that developers want to buy for building weekend retreats for wealthy people in DFW.
Sure, some agricultural land will be lost, and some deer leases will be lost, but the water district already owns 90+% of that land now, and the lake will bring some business to the area to offset these.
The people I feel bad for are the people that have a home within the lake normal pool. You can't replace your home. I don't feel bad for the landowners that were just leasing the land to others - they got a fair price.
What would Gary Dollahon do if he were here today?

does anyone know how long Ray Hubbard will be letting releasing/selling water down stream? I'm not about to buy another $350 annual launch pass at Chandlers!

Maybe we can fish it before we all grow old and die.

build a pipeline from the Mississippi and be done with it all forever, it has plenty of water to give and support everything we have. Screw waiting for local rainfall, dispense it evenly ourselves.

This idea always comes up...always from folks that never lived, used or made their living off of a river delta system.

Thanks for sharing your insight as someone I assume has lived or used to make their living on a river delta system. I didn't know that we always did that. What a truly profound proclamation. ...perhaps if you would care to share some profound information on the topic, that would be more helpful than mentioning that we always mention this (and not mentioning anything to rebuke the idea, simply imply it is a bad idea)

We need hurricanes. Without hurricane rain we dry out.
Stress less, relax more. Go fishing.

Pretty simple, the rain comes and goes. Population growth and expansion does not.

Where is the Marvin nichols reservoir planned to be built at ? east of Bois D Arc on the Sulpher river. The Sulphur runs south of Wolfe City while the Bois is north. I think the Bois feeds Sulphur. As far as the Missisippi ideas goes they also have droughts in the midwest.
