Ok...watched Ernest's tape at least a half dozen times...Got the yellow line...practiced using the depth finder. (Great tip on the 75 percent sensitivity) Started with the bridge columns and found numerous fish around 18 feet. Tried white, yellow, chartruese jigs, moved to road runners, little georges. Tried bouncing em- holding perfectly still-sharp rise and letting em fall. Trolling through them. I had 5 rods set up so I could switch back an forth. After 15 minutes moved on to the next column. Found em again this time at 14 feet...same results. Moved again same results. Found a neat brush pile...lost a few rigs. No luck! Moved onto the boat docks and found out real quick I need more pratice in getting em back under there. Finally the wind came up around 3 PM pretty strong so I pulled up and went home with my tail between my legs. OH! I caught a few
sandie's, 2 little bass on the white jigs and one drum. But NOT ONE crappie.

Should have stayed in South Carolina...I've never been skunked so many times in my life since moving to Texas. I know crappie are in this lake (Granbury)I've seen them coming in with them at the boat ramp. Any suggestions????

Hello Cherokee,

Fishing is hard this time of the year in Texas. The tape you watched made by Mr. Ernest Paty is was well prepared and shows lost of good methods, and tips.

I would suggest going fishing with someone like Chuck Rollin. Chuck lives on Cedar Creek, and fishes nearly everyday.

The best way to learn is go with the best. I fish with Mr. Paty as much as I can, and fish with others great crappie fishermen much as I can, and I still learn something new each time I go fishing.

Good Luck & keep Fishing

Cherokee, I used to feel the same way you do, went out so many time and not catch what I thought I/we should.. Got me some Jigjum Jigs, and some Jig4Life jigs and started practicing the tips I've read on the forum.. slowly I began catching crappie, more and more everytime I would go out. It's true you will learn so much from this guides, but this guides gives so many helpful tips on how to fish crappie, with a little patience and practice you will get better.. Steelman posted some nice pic on his FF with explantions as to what was being seen.. this helps so much to determine what's under your boat... Don't give up, keep on practicing and try new techniques.. I did and still learning more everytime out..

Good luck to you..

BTW, thanks to all you guides out there helping out and sharing your wealth of info..

Thanks for the comments and advice...I'll keep after em. Lake is coming up nicely so I'll be able to get out a little more often now. Guide Idea is probably a smart choice too!!

Almost forgot...I was stationed at Charleston AFB and would go up to Marion and Multry...NOW those are fishing lakes!!!!!!!

CHEROKEE I HAVE FISHED ONE TIME AT LAKE GRANBURY DURING THE WINTER WITH A FRIEND THAT HAS A PLACE DOWN THERE. A CANAL RUN DOWN THE SIDE AND MAKE A T AT THE BACK. WE STARTED FISHING FROM THE BANK ABOUT 1 HOUR BEFORE DARK. HE TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD START BITTING WENT IT GOT DARK. HE WAS RIGHT. WE USED A CORK ABOUT 3FT. DEEP WITH MINNOWS. CAUGHT 20 TO 30 CRAPPIE AND THEY STOP ABOUT AS FAST AS THE STARTED. GOOD STORY DON,T KNOW IF IT HELPS ,BUT GOOD LUCK. HOOK-EM

Boy your bringing back memories...we would go up to the Navy submarine piers up river and fish for Strippers coming up from the ocean...We would have a ball further up Hmnn! I think it was Moncks Corner and fish for those little tiger perch with a fly rod. Talk about fun. Wheweee!!

My neighbor tells me stories of being able to catch crappie in the canals like that but he says that the strippers have really stripped the crappie population. He says there still in the lake but you really have to hunt for them now. I'm thinking of putting in some PVC trees and see if I can create a habitat for them.

my grandparents moved from holly hill to moncks corner when we was kids, and i would get to spend a few weeks out of the summer with them, and can remember walking down to the river with some old cane poles he had cut and dried, and we would wear those perch out,man those days with grandpa was good.!!..i think you will do good with some"trees",just scout out some good places to drop them,(a good map helps)and time will tell.
