So, the wife is asking for ideas for me for Christmas, and I thought I'd ask you all. What's the perfect crappie set-up (in your opinion/experience) for a dedicate crappie fishing rod/reel/line/tackle?
I need to give her some ideas, or I'm going to get more socks under the tree this year.
Thanks!

Thanks Matt! Perhaps in some Burnt Orange (or Perhaps Big 12) colors? ;-)

Perhaps an HDS 12 Touch
The pro angler rods are very nice as are the bone head rods.
Jigum Jigs, Thermocline Lures, Constant Pursuit Outfitters, Crazy Angler just to name a few. A great real is the Shimano Symetre 1000

I assume you are referring to a rod and reel combo when you say crappie set-up. I have to say the pro angler rods are hard to beat. They're light, sensitive and affordable. Ed gives very good service through the mail, or you can pick them up in Lucas, TX by lake Lavon. It's also the only brand I know of where you can purchase just the tip section should you break it. A small Pflueger "President" spinning reel makes a good combo for about $100.

Depends on how greedy she will allow you to be! If you want to be reasonable, maybe an assortment of Lane's lures (Constant Pursuit Outfitters) or one of those bonehead rods I keep reading so much about. Or if you are greedy like me, an SI fish finder.

A ProAngler rod in 8ft ($45) with a Qantum Optix 10 from Academy ($19.99) or if you like casting reels, the H2O Express is on sale at Academy.($29.99). If an 8ft is not your style, get the 6.5ft. I'd spool it with Bonehead 8 or 10lb test in lime green. You'll have a good all around set up for crappie.

Bonehead 7' with Pflueger President don't get any better imo.

These are some great ideas!!
Yes, budget is a consideration, but she'll probably buy some nice stuff.
Yes, rod/reel/line/tackle are all up for discussion!

I would think the budget might come into play do you have a dollar amount in mind she might want to spend ? Lol, whatever I can get out of her is what i'm shooting for. She's been really ornery this year so i'd say $150 or less for the gift (can include any combination of rod/reel/line/lures etc.). Doesn't have to include all categories. Wherever the money is best spent. Scott

Another vote for the 8ft ProAngler with a H2O baitcaster. Academy will spool it for free, then she will have enough coin left to make the stocking runneth over with jigs!
