As long as it stops the wind, keeps you dry and you feel comfortable in it you're good to go. Like a lot of guys are saying, the right base layers make it or break it.

BPS or Guide wear. Insulated pants and some academy long underwear from the snow section. Muck boots and good sox. Good luck on finding gloves you actually like. I have landed on good quality leather gloves with a hand warmer in the glove on the back of my hand. Get several sets for when they get wet. And a Under armor cold gear shirt. You will stay toasty.

I'm looking at getting a Stormr bib and jacket. Heard good things about them. I've been using a pair of Cabelas ski pants that I've worn in extreme cold and never been cold in them. So, I'm guessing the Cabelas Guidewear is pretty good too. It usually depends on if they have Gore Tex and the weight of the Thinsulate.

Base layers are definately the key. I like to use the heavy under Armour cold gear, a t-shirt over it, a sweatshirt, then my rain gear. 20 degrees with wind blowing no problem. My first set is a 100mph bass pro and I have had them for 10 years same set no issues. Well made. Forgot them one time and went and bought my wife and I a set of Academy H20. In my opinion just as good for a lot less money. Good Luck on your purchase.

I bought carhartt and hjc extreme with motorcycle helmet and neoprene gloves. Cold and wet is not an option.

I think for the Texas area, BPS Pro Qualifier is a better choice than 100MPH suits. BPS 100MPH is warmer, but with layered clothing the BPS Pro Qualifier will work just fine. The PQ bibs also has zippers in the legs and fly area. This is a big plus for putting the bib on and off, but especially if you have to relieve yourself (100MPH bibs require undressing). Also PQ suits can be used longer into the spring & fall months without getting to hot.
If we concentrated on the really important stuff in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

I believe if I am reading the BPS web page they no longer make the 100 MPH suit insulated. They build both suits to have a zip in insulated insert zip in on either suit Pro Qualifier, or 100 MPH.

I have Guidewear. Only issue I have is the front zipper pockets will get water in them during a real heavy rain. Anyone else have this problem?

Check out the Onyx site. Good prices and good gear. I bought a jacket from Lake Fork Marina in a bind one wet weekend and liked it so much I followed up online for the bibs. They also have full arctic suits for ice fishing.
