Can someone give me the specifics on who you booked the trip with? I'm freezing my azz off here in Fort Worth, and already have cabin fever. I'd like to book a trip down there!

Thanks for any info you can offer!

We booked a guide one day with a tag boat, there was 8 of us. 4 in the guide boat and 4-in the tag boat. they took us to the delta areas 3-foot of water pretty much. After 2 days of doing that, of our 4 days to fish, we opted to head to the mouth of the south pass and fish the jetties for big reds...
We did fine after that one day with a guide, I do suggest you get a guide for one day. Bait is expensive $$$$ you'll need 50 live shrimp per person per day, they run 35-45 cents per shrimp eeks it cost $90.00 a day in bait. We did catch some nice reds and a few bulls in the shallows the first 2-days
Most of the bull reds were caught on Squid at the jetties the squid is a better deal $16.50 per 5-lb box, we'd buy 2-boxes a day... I wouldn't recommened the guide service we choose..900.00 dollars + 250 for the tag boat.. $1150.00 for the day, that was the best deal I could find at the time.. Good luck..

Yep, I wouldn't recommend our guide either. I'm not sure if he was in a bad mood because we wanted to start an hour late, or if that was just his personality. We explained to him we all had wives with us and we didn't want to rush out in the morning. To be honest, if you are fairly familiar with fishing the Texas coast, you would do fine in Venice without a guide. I'm sure there are some guides who put you on phenomenal trips and are enjoyable to spend the day with, but you are definitely going to pay for them. On average, a Venice inshore guide is about $200-$300 more than an inshore guide in Texas or Florida.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach
