This summer I had the opportunity to fish the Brazos below Lake Whitney with Guide Shane Davies. During those 9 hours of hard fishing I learned a lot of things. Having fished most of my 61 years, one thing I have understood about fishing it is a lifelong learning process. Something I learned as I fished with Shane, observed Shane fishing and listened to what Shane was teaching us was that I needed to slow down and do what I call "saturate" fishing. That means working each run slow and methodically. When I looked up the word methodically in the dictionary one of the definitions was "painstaking, especially slow and careful; deliberate." that is exactly what I observed Shane doing - he was painstaking slow, in fact he was especially slow, carefully working the entire area and he was very deliberate in the process. After we finished out first run he said "you guys fished too fast and passed up a lot of areas to fish. Let's go back and work that run slower." After a going back over the runs again and picking up fish we had missed while fishing fast, the light went on and I got it and understood what he was teaching us. Since that day on the Brazos with Shane Davies I still find myself pushing hard to fish a run fast before I realize I have missed some fish by fishing too fast and I slow down, go back over the run and "saturate" fish the area. I am picking up more fish by covering less area.
I wonder how many "Honey Holes" we pass up while we are fishing so fast trying to get to our "Honey Holes"?
Thank You Shane for Being a Great Guide, a Great Fisherman and a Great Teacher. Looking forward to a trip soon! fish

Slow down is very important in just about every scenario but especially on the river. I reminded myself of that on the Brazos during the NKTBF tournament.

I love fishing the brazos. I always catch larger and more fish on the brazos vs lakes. I'll be there this weekend hopefully

A few folks fail to see that ol Shane is 50% goodness a about 70% Fish crazy
A great angler & a wealth of knowledge IMO. I witnessed him put 5 guys on fish in
a small stretch of river after gatching a limit himself. They all caught 2-5 if
I recall it. It may sound far fetched to ya but ol Shane simply knows how to catch fish &
can teach u if your willing to learn.
Thanks for sharing CTK. thumb

Thank you for the kind words, guys smile

Rick, I appreciate your business and thoroughly enjoyed our time on the river. We all know the importance of presentation but sometimes it simply takes more time in the strike zone to get results. Slowing down is good discipline.

However, patterns change and savvy anglers need to stay flexible. Get in front of the fish. They'll usually let you know. smile
