I see homeless people more often. None of them ever have a fishing pole. Glad you picked up the junk but preaching to the choir will wear out your fingers for no reason.

I'm sure that you will find that most of the people on here will pick up after themselves. I do not leave anything behind... I even pick up my line clippings. I take out what I take in. I will also pick up trash when I see it and can haul it out. Every person that I've met from the forum cleans up after themselves.. I haven't met them all, but I know enough of them. I'm on your side... I get sick of seeing all the [censored] on the banks and in the water.

This should probably be posted on the Texas Hobo Forum since most of the trash is from them.

I'm on the hobo forum also and they are always blaming the fishermen for the trash and hooks in their feet.

I can't seem to find this hobo forum I googled it but nothing came up can someone help me out? just kidding I agree about everyone being responsible and cleaning up after themselves.

Yeah I think that comment was a little misplaced. All the guys I fish with from here are very conscious of picking up after themselves. I guess if the shoe fits wear it , if not then brush it off. Brandon, you can only access the hobo forum from public libraries.

This is a great topic. I fish from the bank of the Trinity 99% of the time. I'm usually doing it around downtown Fort Worth. I pick up all of my trash, including line clippings and I'll pick up the obvious fishing trash, but there is a larger issue.
Here's the problem. If I go fishing and also plan to pick up any trash I find, I wouldn't get to fish. There is so much [censored] it's unreal, and a lot of it I can't get to safely or without getting wet.
I imagine most of it is thrown from cars off bridges and blows into the river or is general litter that blows around and then gets to the water. There's just too much of it to be from anglers.
Whenever we get a good storm that forces some water through, it's clear that it's not fishermen. There is one of those plastic cars you buy for kids (that they ride in and is battery operated, this one looks like a Barbie version) that is stuck in some grass and has been for over a month. It's in an area I can't get to without some risk. Clearly I can't pack that out, even if I could get to it. It's also clear that no one left it there. I see tennis balls, softballs, footballs and soccer balls. Countless plastic bottles, styrofoam cups and styrofoam food containers. It's disgusting and makes the Trinity grosser than just the toxicity.
It's the beer cans on the bank, the 75 yards of fishing line balled up on the bank, used soft plastics and packages of catfish bait that really get me. Within reason, I will pick that up. If I don't have a bag with me, I can't get all of it.
I agree with you; it's disgusting, it's terrible for the environment and it's unacceptable. But it's not all anglers.

Yeah I fish downtown trinity too. I remember trout fishing in the 90's at the big dam off university by where they're putting up all the new bridges and watching as bags of trash went over the fall and split open. The contents were containers from the Ole South pancake house right there. My dad said the dumpster probably got full and some punk kids working there just went and threw the new trash in the river, or even the management told them to do it so there wouldn't be trash sitting out by the dumpster.

Yeah it pisses me off too. In my neighborhood no less. Bet you a hundred they don't live here either. Every now and again i take a bag down and pick up. I'm waiting to catch someone doing it and I'll throw them right in the [censored] water. I wouldn't suspect anyone on this site would do that. It take a different class of a-hole.
