Best reel for skipping jigs would be better, but nothing beats practice and lots of it.

Would you guys prefer a MH w/ a F, MF, or XF tip? I don't have the convenience of trying several rods to figure out what I like, so I'm just doing what I can to learn before I make a purchase. Thanks! M/H fast loads up better than the xfast tip.

You didn't ask about reels but I would use a Curado E7 or a Lews with a 7-1 gear ratio. You are working the jig with the rod so having a fast reel will alow you to make more skips to the docks you are fishing.

I going to share my secret for skipping docks with all. It's not the rod so much as it is the technique. Any 6 ft medium action spinning rod will do. Use braid for the main line and tie on a short leader. Here's the trick...I'm righthanded so I hold the rod in my right hand. (you lefties can swap this up) Flip open the bail and let about 3 ft of line out. Grasp the hook between the left thumb and forefinger. Hold the line at the reel on right forefinger between fingertip and the first joint. Do not hold the line within the first finger joint. Rotate the rod so that the line guides are sticking out on the RH side (this step is crucial to prevent the line from striking the guides). Pull on the hook and preload the rod. Be sure and keep the rod parallel to the water surface. Release the bait from your left hand, then immediately release the line from your right forefinger. Folks, you can practice this while watching the football game on the widescreen. I can consistently hit a spot on my front door 12 inches above the floor and 26 ft from my recliner. One further point, be sure the line exits the rod at the left side of the tip guide and is not wrapped around the tip. Please lemme know how it works for you. Ole Man

Here in this video I am using a Falcon 7' Carolina dragger 2, old green curado, 20 pound Izor mono, 1/4 ounce jig with a craw trailer. Hopefully it helps you a little! This is just how I do it! Not saying that it is the best way! I wish I could do it with both hands accurately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tXlODzLu4A
