Heard a team from Bullard was in the lead. Then i heard a team had a better bag, but was DQ'd because they brought a slot fish to the scales. Any news?

6 and change won it. Think Bullard got second but don't hold me to that. And yes team got DQed that had bigger sack. Not sure what for but don't think it was a slot. Seemed to happen well after they weighed in. Lots of 0's and one fish limits brought in. Very tough and windy conditions today.

It was a grind. Caught 5 slots and 0 keepers. Still had a good time and caught some fish despite the tough conditions. Congrats to the winning team, it wasn't easy today.

203 teams fished and the team of Kevin Haugh & Colton Hatcher from Bullard did win with 5 fish for 6.23 lbs.

Another team had 7 lbs and change but was DQ'd by their own team advisor when she found out that their boat captain was doing the casting for the team, which is against the rules. The students must do all the casting, hook setting, landing of fish by themselves. The boat captain can assist by netting the fish, but that is all.

Congrats to Kevin and Colton from Bullard! And also Wills Point for taking the school title!

The turnout was incredible and Ken did a fantastic job making this an enjoyable event for the kids! You can read my write-up and view pictures from today's event at the link below:

Several teams got DQ for fish being just over 16". They checked there boards with the official board and the official board is shorter. The boards were the same brand boards? Not trying to start a problem here just a heads up.

Was the game warden there to issue tickets?

Let me stop all of the "DQ'd for a slot fish" talk. Not one single team was DQ'd for having one over 16". Those teams did not get to weigh those fish and received a one pound penalty for an illegal fish, just like any other tournament, and that did affect their teams overall weight.

No, the game wardens were not there, so no tickets were issued.

As far as the issue of being the same brand boards, yes, I personally checked a teams board against the official measuring board that has been used at all THSBA tournaments this year. Both boards were made by Pro Rule, but were two different models so there could be discrepancies between the two boards, which there was, with the anglers' board being slightly longer causing the fish in question to measure long on the official measuring board.

It's not any fun to tell a team that they have an illegal fish but all fish from all teams come across the same official measuring board each tournament, thus holding every student from every team to the exact same standards. No different from any other tournament trail that holds an event on Lake Fork.

If there are different models maybe it should state on the THSBA web site which model is used.

That's what sucks about slot lakes, not every board measured the same.

Bad deal since the teams were using the same brand of board.
