Is Monticello powered down and not worth going? Have a day off next week and looking for a power plant lake. Live in DFW so distance is kind of a factor.

Heard from a good source on here that Monti has shut down two units (which is normal this time of year). The third should be back up by December, but isn't running now, I don't remember why. Don't know if it will be running by the time you want to go. Maybe someone who has been in the last couple days will post. I would take another 20 minutes and go to Welsh or Martin Creek. Never been to Welsh but it was hot last year and the power plant seems to be running well there. Martin is my favorite winter lake. The water is nice and warm in the winter. Should be getting good.

Monti is a great lake and fishes fine in the winter. Just fishes like other lakes do in the winter. No more flipping lilly pads in January at 35 degrees with 70 degree water or lining up at the bridge or outlet unless that plant gets a reprieve. :-(

Martin Creek water temp 65 behind bridge a ways, 70 at bridge this afternoon...two stacks running. Fishing was slow for me, only saw one other boat, spent too much time deeper looking for a big one. Caught three fish, 2 on spinner bait, and one on rattle trap, all shallow. Water getting a little lumpy when winds picked up.

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

Welsh, Martin and Brandy Branch are all good winter power plant lakes, and all will turn good numbers, once in a while even a big fish. Squaw is a good one as well just have to make reservations on it.

I am not making any decisions until the bourbon kicks in!
