I was wondering if there were any other known areas for catching crappie from the bank besides for White Rock Lake piers and creek, Rowlett Creek, and Lewisville fishing barge. The pictures I see in the crappie part of the forum always show people with stringers full of crappie but I've never had much luck with crappie. The only time I've caught a lot of crappie was on the trinity in ft worth where you can't keep the fish. I know there's the google bank fishing maps but there not crappie specific. Thanks in advance for any tips.

Thanks for the suggestion I gave it a shot today but the place is so big I didn't know where to start or what to do and just walked the bank from the white restrooms all the way down under the 2 bridges and to where it turns in to a creek. All I caught was one little 6 inch bass on first cast.

I hit the creeks at white rock the other day and not a single crappie but the bass bite was decent

Yeah maybe this cold front will get the shad in the creek this week, I'm going to scout it this Friday.

the shad have been thick enough to walk on at most lakes I've been to and haven't moved up yet, probably going to see a lot dead here soon

It took me a few attempts (actually 5) but I finally caught some crappie at a place where you can keep them. I made a trip out to the Lynn Creek barge on Friday night. I caught a few small ones and one big one. There was a regular there that was showing me the tricks. I also noticed my rods may not be sensitive enough. I had about 3 or 4 bites I missed because the bite was so fast and soft I didn't react. Maybe I can try using my bait casters but I don't want to hit the metal rafters with the tips. I almost bought an All Star 6 ft spinning reel rod at academy for black friday but they were out of the $29 ones and I didn't want to pay 39 for the ones they had.

A guy on eBay is selling 4 1/2 foot microlight rods 3 for $28.50 plus 6.95 shipping. They are absolutely perfect for crappie houses. They are short and very sensitive. See this listing for details.

Those look great for fishing barges. I haven't seen pistol grip rods in awhile. I think I'm going to give my 6'6 vendetta rod a try because that's my shortest casting rod and hope I don't hit anything while I'm sitting down. When I was there Friday I got excited and set the hook hard with my 7' Ugly Stik Inshore lite and hit the rafter while standing. The guy there started laughing and was like man you don't need to set the hook like your catfish fishing with these little crappie. If the vendetta is still a little too long I'll prolly give those pistol grip rods a try
