I work at a bank so Ive known for a while that I would have tomorrow off, so I told my grandfather I would take him fishing. He was a pro bass fisherman 35 years ago but hasnt been fishing in nearly 25 years! He has had a terrible back problems and is suppose to have another back sugery (this will make surgery numer 18) early next year, after which all phyiscal activies for him will come almost to a halt. I have a 16ft bass tracker and live near ray rob. I just checked the weather and its suppose to be 20-25mph north wind, so that is dangerous for my boat and would beat him to death. He is all sorts of excited and has spent the last week taking apart and cleaning all his reels, and then repeating that process several times. I havent seen him this excited about much in a long time. I was thinking about maybe hitting buck creek since it runs east to west. My question is, do you think the water will be too rough there too or would it be a somewhat safe bet? Any advise? should I just cut my losses and see if we can squeeze in another time?

Prob should wait and pick a better day. If they are predicting 20-25, expect 30mph at the least.

Bad back and 25mph winds do not mix well together, live to see another day.

A north wind on RR is the worst, if you go launch in Buck and stay in Buck. My best advice is stay home.

Yeah, a south wind isnt much on that lake but north is killer, so you think buck would be decent if i stayed in it? any suggestions on other lakes that would be safer for a north wind? dont mind driving a bit

I'd leave it up to him, he might be tougher than you think and I wouldn't miss that opportunity! But that said, you can be at the water even if being on the water isn't safe, plenty of spots to go catch fish not just big lakes

I was out last weekend and it was tough fishing.....evening bite was better than morning.

I ended up getting 8 .....they were in 5 to 8 feet in the grass with deep water near by.....biggest went 2 lbs is all.

we used senkos rigged regular with no weight, watermelon red....

Post front fishing is tough and its been a bad fall for fishing to me.

If you think it might be y'all's last chance and he's that excited I'd go, put in in the creek and take it from there, to me that would be worth it even if you don't get to venture far just staying in the creek will probubaly be a ton better than staring at the reels you just cleaned and aren't using

Take him to Squaw Creek this weekend.......guaranteed to catch you some fish and a couple of hours of windshield time with your grandfather. That trip sounds priceless to me!

Thanks for the tips, I fear it may be one of the few chances he gets. I've never gotten the chance to fish with him because he's lived in Florida most my life and he just moved in with us a couple weeks ago. I think we may take our chances at the creek. It's cool though, he has his old Abu garcias, he said his favorite one is a 1964. Crazy to think about to me since I'm only 21. Any tips for fishing that heavy timber in the creek?

Put in @ Sanger Ramp and stay in the marina, best place to fish on north wind. A lot of pond weed and grass around that area, a spinner bait or chatterbait maybe a skinny dipper or even t-rig-wacky rigged senko will get you some bites.
