TreeBAss, now *that* is a good question.
I plan on heading out to the Sabine river system a try to add this species to my list.
And, for the record, they are a native fish in some of our waters.
Oh, also, they are edible, thus it is illegal to simply kill them and dump them in TX waters, not to mention the irony of killing a fish because you don't believe it to be as important as your favorite fish.

I caught one last winter at Lake O'the Pines on a white 1/16oz jig fishing for crappie in the creeks... We did better on the crappie and sandies:

I think we'll see a bunch more once the multi species takes off I will be targeting EVERYTHING I'll be a shoe in for the shad, catch them all the time on flyrod. Nothing like ultra light fishing...

Make it easy on yourself Starless. When a pic is sent in, they have to tell you what it is in order to get credit for the catch. You just check it out to ensure they are right... Fuzzy or blurred pics should be canned immediatly... Just a thought.
Forgot about the night fishing thing, been bass fishing tooooooooo long.

Yeah, we will make sure everyone in the contest knows to send in clear pics, to take more then one pic, and too take pictures of any distinguishing features of unusual or hard to identify fish.

Have caught a bunch of them in Caddo on lazy Ike lures either in white or yellow with black dots.

Caddo is a lake on the TX/LA border.

Personally I would not bother to keep one unless it was about 18-20 inches or better. To fillet a pike, musky or pickerl correctly you take out 7 fillets. The Y bones as have been said are the issue.
I used to fish for them a lot when I lived in PA.
Bait, minnow, shiners, etc. They love big creek chubs, blue gill, etc. Basically they eat anything.
Lure of choice is a large gold inline spinner or buck tail. They are fun to catch and excellent eating! You just need some size to them to make it worth the effort.
I let most of em go unless we got into really big uns,
