Disclaimer: I took this trip almost a year ago and am just now getting around to writing a a blog post series about it. I know, I know. I'm useless. But not quite! Because I bring the joy of fish pictures! And trust me, there'll be plenty more where that came from. [img:center] [/img]

Have you received any information on that tagged redfish yet?

Have you received any information on that tagged redfish yet? We were doing the tagging that day - it would be cool to hear if any of our fish have been recaptured, but I'm honestly not sure if they would notify Capt. Jeremy Chavez (pictured) or not.

Maybe. I caught one about fifteen years ago in the Land Cut and I turned the tag in. I don't know if they got much information out of the deal though. I caught it a month after it was tagged and about a quarter of a mile from the tagging location.

I fished in Louisiana with Jeremy last January; it was a trip I'll never forget. I caught the biggest red of my life on my 8 weight, had another one cut me off in the oysters, and blew a shot at one a whole lot larger than my big one. If you want a big bull red on fly or light tackle, Jeremy will certainly get you taken care of. He's a very avid fisherman and a really nice guy, and you won't regret a trip with him, whether it be in Louisiana or in Texas.

Awesome sheepshead. I got one to rise to a fly on laguna madre last summer. He looked at the fly and swam off. It was so disappointing. I am jealous. What fly did he eat?

Sheepshead infuriate me, for the most part. In my part of the Laguna, they seem to be extremely spooky and most attempts to catch one result in failure. I swear, permit might be easier to catch.* That's what just absolutely blew my mind about that first sheepshead - he ignored the boat, he ignored my shadow, he just ran over and ate. Point blank range. I was incredulous. I tied a wide variety of flies for this trip because I didn't know exactly what to expect. The fly pictured above that took the sheepie was an abominated chernobyl crab wannabe, with palmered grizzly hackle for body and Finn coon tail. Simple, effective. *Says the guy who has never fished for permit.
