Inline spinners like the Roostertail with conventional spinning gear are about the fish catchin-est lure known to mankind. I've used them for years and have found that if the fish don't take a rooster they ain't biting wink I've had some luck in recent years using special spinner flys on the fly gear mostly for river fishing in the current. The problem has always been weight. Anything with a metal blade casts like a rock on fly gear. I might have found a solution with the latest versions using plastic pop bottles to make the spinner blades. I'll find out Friday when I fish the Brazos below Lake Whitney..

The idea is to add a spinner to just about any streamer/bugger type fly. I'll experiment with placement and technique once I get on the water.

I'll use swivels between the fly line, leader and tippet for weight and to reduce twisting.

I have also been a huge fan of spinners as well. Tom Nixon would be proud! I would love to hear how you do with these.

It's Friday and I'm heading to the Brazos. I'm taking the components for the spinners along with the ones I've built to do some "on the water" experimenting.. Video results should be up by late Saturday..

Not enough time on the river to thoroughly test the spinners but they do function well.

I like what you're trying.

if you just want to beat the weight issue...use a long-shank hook, a couple of beads for bearings and a panther martin style blade.
tie your pattern behind the rearmost bead.

if you use light wire hooks and small to medium blades you won't be modular but you won't be heavy either.

Thanks. Another good pattern to try.
BTW, your wife reminds me a lot of mine. They know some of the same sign language, too!

Awesome Video Ben!!! I really like the variations you put into this one with the underwater scenes, captions of the fish and different camera setups of you fly casting. And as always you provide a great insight on where to launch and fish an area.

LOL Just watched it again, and said it again. She's tough, tho. She didn't cry this time, either.

Mine picks at me. Since my hearing is getting bad, she will sign to me after I say "huh?" about the 4th time.
I don't know ASL.
Smartelek broad.
(She also doesn't read the forums, so I should be safe from the wrath, lol)
