I've been fishing most of my 70 years and have bounced off my share of stumps with nothing more than an 'expletive deleted'. Well, a couple weeks back, David (Shut-Up-And-Fish) and I were fishing RR and I was just idling around (about 5 mph) looking for consentrations of fish and the boat came to what you might call a sudden stop. So I'm up on top of a stump (been there before) throw it in reverse to get off...not so easy. Finally I get off and we continue fishing. Next thing I know the bilge pump starts coming on. Now the Lund is in the shop while trying to get a small hole right at the transom fixed. I guess if I'd been running at speed, it would have torn the transom off the boat the way it looks. Oh well...I guess everyone has his turn at doing something stupid.

I would blame it on all on David. Seems like you went many years with no problems and then David gets on the boat and 'issues' start happening. If you need a different fishing partner, I'll clear my schedule. (Sorry David, just calling it the way I see it)

Sorry about the bad luck. Hope you get your boat back soon.

I'd say you were pretty smart idling in a stumpy area. I have been so high up stuck on a stump I thought the boat might turn over. That's on a stump you can barely see above the water.

Seriously, when you consider the amount of times that we have accidents and get off scotch free, it is Just A Matter of Time before we don't. That's why my boat insurance gets paid in full each year cheers

I'm just messing with David because I consider him a friend. He sold me my two Lowrance units and we have kept in touch and fished together. He is a great guy and I recommend him whenever someone needs any marine gear. Yeah, I didn't figure Guy would call but it was worth a shot.

As far as being a jinx, my fishing club blames me solely for Lewisville being bad this year. They even call it the 'BlueNitro Curse'. Apparently, I can spread it to any lake I fish no matter how well I scrub down my boat.

I think what we need to take away from this post is to be very careful out there with all the area lakes low water conditions. Wear your PFD's and use common sense when on the water.

You didn't do anything stupid. Had you been running full speed through that mine field then I might call that stupid. Shoot, you were just having fun fishin! Get that boat patched up and get back out there.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. frown

Happy to hear you were operating at a sensible speed for the conditions instead of running at plane as some many boaters insist on doing.

It is surprising where stumps or floating logs can show up in the lake now.

So instead of beating yourself up for the accident, congratulate yourself that you were operating your boat in a sane and safe manner when it happened. Your safe speed probably saved you from an unexpected bath.

sorry to hear you got a hole in your boat sir , I know that wasn't the plan for sure
I would tend to agree its a good thing you were not moving faster .
got a few holes in mine from this and that .
stumps ,bridges ,rocks and the other etc etc etc seem to find me pretty frequently
and or vice versa

Look at it this way Guy, if David had not been in the boat, it probably would have passed right over the stump!
His extra weight caused the boat to ride just low enough to hit the stump, so it is all his fault, none of yours!!!!!
David, you know I'm just giving you a hard time? My open seat is yours anytime you want to venture up north!

This post reminds me of hitting a submerged concrete road on Eufaula a few years back. There was nothing to indicate it was there, not on my Navionics chip, no marker bouy or signs anywhere. I was just lucky I was idleing in the middle of the lake when it happened. Just saying, it can happen anywhere at any time. I'm just glad you were both safe and nothing serious occured. And you are fortunate you were in a Lund!

If you are the original owner I know Lund guarantees the hull for life.

Lund's Lifetime Limited Warranty

Lund's Lifetime Limited Warranty gives you the best overall coverage ever available on hull material and workmanship. From bow to stern, gunwale to gunwale, and from the bottom of the hull to the top of the windshield, your new Lund is backed with a transferable warranty - and Lund's promise that we'll make sure any claims are handled with speed, ease, and our full support.

It's because Lund boats are built so well that we can afford to give you this superior warranty. We don't think you'll need it, we have that much confidence in our boats. But if you do need warranty support, you can be sure you'll have the very best in the industry.
