I was out there for a few days last week, that is the first time I have been out there since early August, it was shocking how low the lake is, I know being 6 1/2' low doesn't sound all that bad, but it was real low, most areas have lily pads out of the water, allot of people that have boat docks and boats in them, are way past the water line. I know its bad across the state, but I was really surprised to see the difference out there in the last few months. Joe Pool lake on the other hand, looks to have about the same ammount of water as it did this summer, and I know it has rained more East of D/FW then it has here in D/FW.

Lake Shasta in California is 172 feet low if you want to feel better.

Low water is tough on every one. Skunked a guide recently...

How often does that happen. I really hope that lake gets some water soon.

The SRA has a contractual obligation to release water for communities downstream for which they have these contracts. That is the water coming out of the pipe.

The gate I have no idea.

It was lower in 2011 on November 3rd and the lake has not dried up yet.

Dallas wasn't pumping 5' at the damn every year then.....I remember it being 8' low.....what's 13' going to look like??? Doesn't make a poop to me.....but it's going to be difficult for some to stomach.

Funny thing... I was talking to someone in my neighborhood the other day about the water level in our community lake being low and how we might try to conserve some of it. His reply was "It's been worse", so evidently the logic is to not worry until it's worse than it's ever been before. hammer

Understanding the concern is a given, why people have to mix in the doomsday drama is what I do not get.

Like I have posted many times prior, population in Texas was 16 million in 1990 and 25 million in 2010. Last "major" reservoirs to open were Lake Cooper (1991) and O.H. Ivie (1990). Population increases 9 million people, mix in a drought and then our elected officials were 0% proactive in planning for our future water needs and you have this mess we are in now.

Rain will help, but until we increase our supply to meet or exceed our current demand, a little pumping out of Fork and a gate cracked is the least of our worries....

All of that is 100% correct Doug... But this is Fork!! Low water destroyed Cooper..... If Fork gets destroyed I think heads are going to explode.

I don't know much, but i can tell you the lake is dropping and we extended pipe out for sprinkler system when we had the last dry spell and now it is almost out of water. Sure hope we don't get to be like Lake tawakoni. It pretty sad over there.

Sure most have already gathered the fact that 'Water' is the 'new commodity'! It can and is sold to generate revenues not thought of until these days.
Texas is growing. Fact. Great fact but, proper planning is necessary to plan for all this growth. That looks more and more everyday like it was not and is not being done.
Fork, like many lakes in our state may now suffer. There are many more. I don't hear of any 'new' or even planned lakes or dams to compensate.
This all mixed as stated clearly above with our very long drought cycle....are going to be difficult to recover from.
Sad...very sad. Texas is a great place... texas

Here we go again. Twice this week. Let's go for three next week.
By the way, there are (shock! Oh, my God!!!) people that are down stream of Fork that rely on that water for other things other than their lawns, LIKE LIVESTOCK!!! I know cows are worthless compared to bass but we do eat them. Remember that there was a creek that fed farms before Fork was built.

I'm not debating whether they should or shouldn't pump water out of a lake, all I'm saying is that it was a lot lower than I was expecting.
