Whenever I would go to a new lake and ask the fisherman at the dock or wherever what's good, I would get lipless cb over grass.
I thought is that the pat answer to placate dummies like me. No it really does work. But my go to lure is a crank bait, now.

What ever they are biting on is my confidence bait. I had rather catch them on a short line with a jig tied on. But I have always tried to be versatile and have as much confidence catching them on moving baits as I do dragging a worm or flipping a jig. My favorites are frogs and big ole top waters . My go to bait in hard times is the limp wristed stuff like shakey heads and drop shotting

Weightless or Texas rigged SuperToad. My PB is on a 10" power worm...oil w/green fleck. 12lb9oz. But, it really depends on the time of year, water temp, etc. I usually start with the toad.
I hate hard baits. I really hate traps. But when I throw one it's a Tennesee Shad 1.5 or 2.5 from SK.
Also a goto is a black/blue bitsyflip w/a black craw trailer.
