If you have the possibility to move to one of the following states for it's quality fishing:
Washington, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut or Massachuetts..
Where would you move? any city in particular?
We are married, no kids. I'll be working from home. Wife will be looking for a job in her profession.

I wouldn't go too far north.

Open your eyes & look within, are you satisfied with the life youre living.

I'd be in the Catskills region of New York in a heartbeat if I had the opportunity!
Either there, or Northern, rural Pennsylvania. The spring creeks in PA are some of the most pristine waters you can fish.
Easy access to Great Lakes smallmouth bass fishing, some of the best steelhead and salmon fishing in the country, and the beauty of the area make that area an awesome place to behold.

NORTHERN Pennsylvania has great fly fishing, the south is nothing special. I grew up in SW PA.
Personally I would go to the mountains of North Carolina or to Washington. Washington has ideal weather for me and lots of options for fly fishing. Seattle is a great city.
2 cents again....

Live in an RV and bounce around till you find "home". I traveled all over and while I fell in love with many places, I couldn't see myself living there year round for one reason or another. Once I got back to Texas after my trips I realized I was a Texan for life. Although the RV living is calling me in retirement. Bounce around where the season and fly dictates.

I can only attest to the NC\SC and Washington areas ... either of those would be great but very different. I think I would lean towards the NC/SC area ...set up shop in the Brevard area and you have access to the Pisgah NF and the Davidson River and lots of small streams in northern SC ...plus northern GA is not too far.

South Carolina, hands down. 2nd would be north Carolina. Reverse it. North Carolina first followed by South Carolina! Side Note: Me personally I will stay right here in the GREAT STATE OF TEXAS!

While there is some nice fishing to be found, I wouldn't live East of the Mississippi River unless I moved back to FL. And I'm pretty picky about where in FL. There are just too many people. I want low population density! For that same reason, I'm not keen on Washington. You can get LPD and the Yakima River in eastern WA, but that's about it. When you start heading North, you quickly get into a situation where fishing becomes seasonal, unless you consider dangling corn on a hook through a hole in the ice on a 2' fishing pole to actually be "fishing."
While I absolutely love trout fishing, the only places with truly yearround fly fishing for trout are in the Ozarks and some of Southern Appalachia. For that reason, I'd say western NC and extreme eastern TN are the best area on your list. You're close enough to make a day's drive to quality saltwater fishing, there's good yearround trout fishing in the area, and plenty of warm water options from BIG lake Stripers to quality Smallmouth streams. The extreme eastern edge of TN is a much cheaper place to live than what happens as soon as you cross the line into NC.

You never know. I thought my wife would hate it; she's never liked camping. But once we got an RV......... For me it's a place to lie down between fishing trips, but she absolutely loves the entire RV scene. Go figure.......
