El Matador off 380 (University in Denton) I been eating there 29 years my whole life It used to be where El Gupos (over priced & bland) is a long time ago.I also recently started eating at LA Mexicana off Locust about a block south of the square its good too. Avoid Ojadas shwy 121 in Lewisville its Bland and I got sick as dog last time I ate there couldn't decide what end to put on the pot.If in lewisville Martinez Grill is the best bet.Carrollton & Farmers Branch lack good Mexican food Nevo Leon @ Josey Ln & Valley View used to be good till in one visit my 3 year old niece showed me like 6 roaches and they where not the smoking kind.Nasty one ok two maybe after 5 barf.I like Casa Navero in Dallas,Texas off Marsh & Forest in Dallas

I do not like to be negative but, the wife and I dined at the El Chicos in Sherman Monday. I was about the worst swill I have ever eaten. The enchiladas had to be cut into bite sized pieces with a knife. The frozen Mexican dinners from the grocery store are 100% better than what they served us. What are the managers thinking serving such pitiful food? The iced tea was good though.

Pedro's in Pilot Point is a hole in the wall. Tried it several times this summer. I thought it was pretty good.

"LOPEZ" in southwest Houston (Wilcrest and 59) Salsa is the best I have tasted, as well as the Queso. After 6PM there is usually a wait for a table. Service is excellent.

Chitos in Plano and Frankie's in Sachse.
My favorite would have to be Fuentes in San Angelo. Frankie's is awesome. Not the same old texmex. Lots of innovative dishes. Tamales with pork guiso on top is the bomb!!!! Also get a free tostada with a meal and they don't use sour cream but creme fresca? So much better than sour cream.

Taqueria Pinocho, a hole in the wall but definitely best Mexican tacos around. East of downtown Dallas. You'll thank me later.

Restaurants that are rated as "the best" in Texas Monthly are almost always over priced and average at best.
