I was determined to make at least one trip to POC during October. My wife gave birth to our third daughter early this month and I was just about crazy from lack of sleep and kiddo overload. So since I was up a 4 am anyway on sunday morning, I made a flying trip to POC. I was leaving Froggies by 7:45 and hit the jetty. Boats were already lined up waiting for bullreds to come by. I don't fight the anchor at the jetty when fishing alone. I pulled into a couple spots that typically hold fish only to find some ladyfish and sheephead. I didn't see many others hitting anything. So I fired up and hit a wadefishing spot that produced the last week of Sept. It was a bit of a run but I needed to air the motor out anyway.
I eased into marsh drain and noticed that tide was a little lower than I hoped with some oyster already exposed. I hustled into the drain from a direction I hadn't previously took until I felt mud in thigh deep water and started working a shrimp under popping cork. I was about midway up the drain with nothing going on when I hit the first red, about 25". Water was muddier than I expected and I started working back out and found a bar that was about ankle deep. Coming in from a new direction, I had missed it and the tide was just low enough the reds didn't wnat to push over it. Water started to clear up as I got past the shallow bar and I could see pods of redfish. Some tailing some just swimming along. I finished the red limit pretty quick. I was just a matter of anticipating the pod and getting the shrimp so the fish could see it.
I moved to the mouth of the drain and into the bay to about thigh deep. I should have started there. Fish were everywhere. Rafts of large mullet were milling through the area with lots of finger mullet and smaller bait fish. Schools of reds, drum and sheephead were also moving through the area. Shrimp were useless they were immediately shreaded by bait steelers.
I switched to a watermelon Wave Shaddick on 5/0 hook and started a slow walk the dog while trying to keep it below the surface. I would look around until I saw bronze and cast in that general direction. A fish bit every cast for a while. I cant wait to get back there this weekend.

Sounds like you had a good trip !
We were in POC the weekend before and the Big Jetty's were the same way. We ended up moving to Saluria/ Mitchell's cut area and got a few. No limits but still had a good time.
We caught Ladyfish, Gaftop, Kingfish and Redfish.
Glad to hear you had a good time. Maybe we'll see you there sometime. My signature pic is our boat. "Salty-Dawg". We have a place there and keep the boat there.
1982 Mako 20B 1998 Yamaha 150 Pro V Fishing out of Port O Connor TX. The "Salty-Dawg" all cleaned up and ready for our next trip.

I run a maroon and white Triton LTS. Its in a slip so It's never as clean as I would like. The wind this weekend is going to be tricky. A stiff NE is a tough direction. It will generally be parallel to most of the shorelines I fish. Trying to weigh likelyhood of a blow out.
