Took the Mrs fishing to Indianola...first time to go there. Got there (Indianola Marina) Sunday afternoon and had reserved one of their RVs for 2 nights. Off to a bad start because that RV was the pits especially since I had the Mrs with me. For a couple of young guys that RV might work, but that mini bathroom and rusted stove were a big turn off. At least the A/C worked, but we won't stay at that 1 star place again.

Fishing on Sunday was tough. Piggy perch would not leave the dead shrimp alone. I was smart enough to take along some small perch hooks, so we caught a bunch of perch to use as cut bait. Once it started getting close to sunset the piggies turned off and we started catching sand trout on the cut bait. First time for me -- late that night I had a big hit on a line I had out with about a 5 inch live piggy. Long story short, it was about a 5 pound gafftop but I was thinking it would be a red. So the first day we ended up with about a dozen sand trout and 3 gafftop.

Monday during the day was a repeat. Caught a bunch more piggies for cut bait. Once it got dark we ended up with about 20 more sand trout and 2 more gafftop. I did switch over to Gulp shrimp in the electric chicken color and fished the lights. Got a couple of nice sand trout before I hooked and landed a nice 18 inch speck. Some people don't eat the sand trout or Gafftop, but they're OK with me. Overall we had a good time but the poor RV put a damper on things. The big surprise was that we did not catch a single croaker or drum and neither did anyone else at the marina. Also, didn't see a single red or flounder hooked/landed either.

The Mrs has a sister in CalAllen just outside of Corpus, so next time we will try our luck in the Riviera area.

Live each day like it's your last because one day you'll be right!
