I recently had a 998 linked via Ethernet cable to an 898. Last wk end I marked a couple waypoints on my console unit (998) and when I jumped up to fish the spot, the waypoints did not show up on my bow mounted 898.. Is there a setting on the units that I need to " turn on" in order to share waypoints between the 2 units, or could there be another problem? Thanks.

The default setting for Ethernet is waypoint sharing. Both units have to be on to do that.
Waypoints are not written to the other unit's memory. They are displayed in a different color.

Additionally if you have Snapshot turned on, you must have a memory card in the unit for it to save waypoints.

Thanks Wayne, so I need to make sure waypoint sharing is turned on, on both units, and snapshot is turned off. I have Navionics chips in both units but I'm assuming that is not considered a memory card, right? Also, what is snapshot? Is that a way to take pics of screenshots? If so, I do not use that function, so I do not need snapshot turned on in my units.. Thanks for your help.

You have to have a separate memory card in the unit for Snapshots, and Recordings.

When you start a recording, the unit creates a waypoint with a "R" prefix.

A Snapshot is a saved photo of the view displayed when you push the MARK button.
When you take a snapshot, the unit creates a waypoint with a "S" prefix.
At the same time the snaphot has a file attached that relates it to the Chart view. When you are at one of the "S" prefix waypoints, a thumbnail photo will be displayed on the screen showing that snapshot.

One more thing, keep your map card locked when it is in your unit/s.
The only time it should be unlocked is when doing a Freshest Data update on your computer.

Hey Wayne, I just went to the garage and hooked up my graphs. They were both set to share waypoints and snapshot was turned off on both. Only other thing I can think of is maybe my bow unit was off when I marked those waypoints.. I don't remember, but they both have to be on in order to share waypoints right?

Push the Menu button twice.
The frequency settings are in the Sonar menu tab.

The number one cause could be low power. Did you extend the unit power cord directly to the battery with at least 14 guage wire?

Do a restore defaults setting and if that does not clear it up, contact Humminbird Customer Service.
