On the front page of CNN now! We were fishing about 100 miles out of Matagorda Bay when we found this giant squid. It appears that a huge Mako took off his mantel, killing it. We happened to find it shortly after it was killed. They flew it to Florida Wednesday for DNA testing. It was amazing to have it in my hands and look at it so close. What a magnificent creature. I don't know why they reported that the person driving the boat caught it. There were 5 of us on board and one of the other guys was the one that actually spotted it floating and pulled it on board. The biologists are estimating it to have actually been approximately 14' long. To a layman or newsman, you 'caught' the squid if you pulled it onto the boat. Them news people are sloppy with their words ....

The squid looked in pretty bad shape in the pics of the news so I wondered if it was really caught. I'm glad that you clarified it. It's still cool that you were in the news!
