If you are throwing a cast net you do not need bait...or a fishing rod. Tilapia are easily caught in nets. Prefered method for the "meat fisherman". Squaw is having an "all you can eat" sale right now on Tilapia.

True but , friends caught blues up to 15 pounds while fishing for tilapia, kinda like a added reward.

I want to fill the freezer for a fish fry so a cast net sounds attractive. I know Squaw has a lot of cedar brush under water. Will I be throwing in shallow water or letting it sink in more depth?

Not to Hijack but are their Crappie in Squaw Creek? I have been thinking about going down there and fishing the Timber for Tilapia. Using the same techniques i would use for Crappie. You think they will eat a jig?

I guess the Crappie just cant handle the Hot temps in the summer there. First time i went and didnt know was in August and the water temp was 99 degrees first thing in the morning. Didnt catch a fish. Went back in January and caught the heck out of Bass.

Will a worm and bobber work for tilapia? I fish a lake that is loaded with them too. I see people cast netting them all the time but I'd prefer to just catch a few on light tackle if possible.

YES! I caught several of them a couple weeks ago on topwaters(yellow magic) and crankbaits while bass fishing. All fishermen I saw targeting Tilapia were using worms below a bobber...and they were catching em.

Is Tilapia a year round fishery on Squaw Creek, or does this bite taper off?

Partner caught a good one on a squarebill yesterday. Awesome colors. Hadn't seen one with purple on it.
