I have my truck in the shop as we speak getting some work done to it and one of the things they recommended was a $175 dollar fuel system cleaning. I am always wary of these types of things and wanted to ask if anybody thought it was worth it? Truck has almost 100,000 miles, I don't mind spending the money if it is something that takes a professional mechanic to do and was worth it but wanted to check first. Is this something I could do myself?

Thanks!

Does it run fine?

If yes then say no. Go to walmart get a can of seafoam. Wait till tank is low then dump it in fill up and drive like normal. You just got a fuel system cleaner. I do this every time I change my oil and have never needed to service the fuel system on any vehicle I have (other than changing the fuel filter)

Listen to the guys above.

My 2004 Silverado just started running rough for the first time in 6 years. Turned out it was the throttle body. $5 can of throttle body cleaner and a new $6 gasket and I was back in business. Clean the throttle body and use fuel injector cleaner every few tanks and you'll have as clean of a fuel system as can be reasonably expected.

I use Berryman B-12. Works as good as Seafoam but cheaper.

A "Fuel System Cleaning" for 175 is nuts. I'm a mechanic and run a shop, I wouldn't be able to sleep at night charging that. The above post are correct.

Thanks for the advice, I was a little surprised at that price as well.
