On Sunday, first day of Fall, I had Jessie and Jessie Jr., from Snook out for the morning on Lake Somerville. Jessie managed to get the first and last fish, however, Jessie Jr. got the largest at 4#. They were in hopes that they would catch enough fish for dinner. Winds were light from the east most of the day. They ended the morning with their limit of 50 cats. Jessie Jr. said he thought they had a few more than they needed for dinner. All fish caught under corks, in 3-6 foot water, using CJ's Shad punch bait. On Monday I had James from Bellville and his friend Dwayne from Industry out for a relaxing time away from work. They were glad to see how quiet it can be on the lake on a Monday morning. The winds calm at arrival at the lake, then were from the north 5-10 mph after about 8am. First stop produced a half dozen throw backs, so we moved on to another spot. Here we managed to boat 33 keepers, next stop produced another 17, giving them their 50 fish limit and we headed back to the ramp. Dwayne put the largest fish in the boat at 4#, caught a couple that should have weighed 5-6#, but just did not have the body weight. All fish caught on CJ's Shad punch bait, under corks, in 3-6 foot water. Weldon Kirk

I'm new here, so I have a quick question: I was fishing from the Overlook Marina Saturday nite, and if you dropped a minnow further down than 3ft, it would die. A fisherman out there said the lake was turning over. He said when that happens, all the fish will be near the top of the water. I was out there 7 hours, and did not have any bites. I look on here, and seems to me yall did pretty well. I am not asking for any top secret info, but maybe I am doing something wrong? Any help would br greatly appreciated. Thx.

Jay, there are times when the water is lower on oxygen than others...this could cause your minnow to die. Some lakes do turn over, I have not seen any sign of that at Somerville right now.
If you want to catch some catfish, I would use a punch bait, I use Cj's, instead of minnows. I seldom ever catch fish with minnows in their stomach, unless it is a big blue cat. You are kind of tied down on the marina, where, in a boat, I can move around and try to fish areas that are holding food at that time for the fish.

Watched Obiewan57 on here with all his fish pictures for quite a while and never wanted to stink up my boat with that stuff, then i broke down and tried it and i'm thinking about leaving the cast net at home!! Punch baits really DO work I'm also gonna test some different ones on the GoPro soon and put it up for viewing?? Still can't believe it works like it does... I'm catchin 8 t0 10 keepers to my fishing buddies 1 fish when he's using shad?? (He does catch the bigger one usually)
