Just a word of caution when moving from spot to spot. If you leave the trolling motor in the water and take off with your foot buried in the throttle, you will break the trolling motor clean off. Luckily it didn't break clean off and sink.

Got to get to repair shop next week and maybe they can put humpy dumpty back together again.

Well, that reminds of the nursery rhyme:

Larry be nimble

Larry be quick
Larry forgot the trolling motor stick!
hammer

OOPS! bolt

I don't know why people take off from a standing position with their foot buried in the throttle.

A bass boat nearly rammed me doing that last year. He was trolling the shoreline, swung his boat toward the middle of the lake, moved to the console, then went full throttle without looking to see what was in front of him.

I was about 200 feet from him, crossing from his right, when he did this. I threw my motor from cruising to full reverse when I saw the bow of his boat lift into the air and leap toward me.

Fortunately I did not damage my engine by going from cruising to full reverse without a pause in between. He passed about 20 feet in front of my pontoon, with his bow still in the air.

Had I not hit full reverse to slow down my boat he would have rammed the middle of my boat.

The bastard did not even come back to apologize but kept going full speed toward the middle of the lake. And no, a pontoon that can go 20 mile per hour can not catch a bass boat going full throttle or he and I would have discussed his stupidity when I caught up to him.

I don't want to offend but it is not smart to go from a standing position to full throttle at any time.

I know you want to beat your competitors to the next spot but a few minutes won't make that much difference. Please use common sense when operating a boat on the water.

OUCH!
Never ceases to amaze me how many people will idle around with the big motor while their trolling motor is still in the water loco

R63pappy witnessed one of my stupid boater tricks after dark at aquilla one night. i trolled and tied up to the courtesy dock, backed trailer down, idled around with big motor and after unsuccessful 1st attempt, backed up a few feet and tried again with much more thrust. it was one of those " want to get away " moments

i know first hand that the unbreakable shafts on a Minn kota will shatter if u leave it down and try to come on plane with the outboard.
