Took my son out on the trinity not too far from Dallas. At sunset the bite was in like no other. Having runs every 10 min. Missed a few without even hooking them. Or feeling them. Around 11 finally managed to hook one in the roof of its mouth. Which is weird. Lol. But my son reeled him in. And he went 50#. Was actually able to weigh him wiith my scale. Then the bite slowed down and we fell asleep. Woke up to one of my rods singing to me around 3am . Lol. Ended up gettin a hook in this one. Finally was able to drag her up the bank with a rope. She was 6.5ft and weighed 115# Noticed she was bleeding quite a bit. And finally realized that I accidentally got her in the gills and ripped one. frown so I drug her up the bank and set her to the side knowing she was gonna die. I kept her to take home and clean. Cuz I refuse to waste a fish. After an hour of good runs and poor hook sets which I ended up hooking at least 5-6 and they ripped drag and were gone within 10-15 seconds into the fight. Finally after about an hour of this. I finally got a hook in another. Ended up landing it within 15 min. He/she was 7.5ft. Long. Didn't get a pic of this one cuz my phone died and it was dark. And I was tired. Haha. While landing this one I had 2 good runs and missed both. Thank god. Cuz we were exhausted. We got out there at noon on Saturday. But anyways. Finally left at sunrise. And I had to carry that gar an 8th of a mile through wooded trees and [censored]. After already carrying all our gear and coolers etc. EXHAUSTING. finally got home. And had to go buy a hatchet to clean her. Lots of white white meat. But what confuses me is that she had eggs in her. ALOT of eggs. Is that normal or what? But all in all. A absolutely amazing night missed a lot of nice fish. But at least we got 3. We were extremely busy most the night since I prefer to rebait at least every hour. And between runs every 10 min for about half the night. Lol. Here's some pics of the 50 and the 115.

Glad to see you didn't waste the fish. Bravo on that one. I can't wait to move up these this week and get in to some of this action.

I wonder if gar or other fish eggs taste like caviar? Anybody know. I know some don't but I don't know how that goes between the species.

I am a veterinarian, and I used to treat some dogs for a young lady who went to Baylor. Her dad had some connection with Russia and was able to get large amounts of Russian caviar. She would bring me big cans of it. I was from Lorena; no one I knew had ever eaten caviar, and most didn't even know what it was. Once I tried it, I liked it and cleaned the cans time after time. When she graduated, I lost my source and couldn't afford buying it. I was amazed at it's cost.
