Any advice for a novice? I plan on fishing there 24th thru 27th.Tarpon,reds,and trout targets.

Well...you won't get beat up on the jetty for sure. But you also posted a question in the 'Reports' section. Which seems to happen quite often.
You could also be a little more specific in your question so you'll get more useful advice. For example what kind of gear or lures or bait are you planning on using etc.. Which parts of the jetty do you plan to fish? This time of year smacks, kings, bull reds are common and they can be had depending on wether and surf conditions.

I found most folks on the south jetty to be friendly and helpful. Just don't crowd them, be respectful etc.

Really ksjmf? I figured my best bet would be tail hooking a big mullet and tying a small balloon up the line about 6 ft or so and keep it off the bottom. This no good?

you def dont wanna balloon it out there. had a guy with balloons and the incoming tide was pushin his balloons in my way. couldnt cast out farther then 20-30 yards because his balloons kept gettin in the way. we had to tell him if our line is over his lines and we reel our line in and it had his line on it, we would cut it off. he was throwin out about 25-30 yards and let his line loose. if you do do the balloon please do it where theres not much people around. and if you do do weights and hook method, u gotta cast out further than 30 yards out or else you get stuck in the rocks beneath! good luck bro! i can give you some tips too if u want, just PM me.

Don't forget you can't keep Horse Mullet. Nothing bigger than 12". Looks like your luck might be with you catching some good weather this week. I might be on the pier Thursday/Friday.

I'll be out there all weekend fishing and camping. I'll be camping along the jetty somewhere and will be in a silver Tacoma and have a tan FS12T Kayak if you see us out there stop by and say hello. I will try to keep everyone updated if I figure anything out. Good luck and tight lines to everyone this weekend.
