It's a crappie!!! All 1.54lbs. PawPaw is very proud. Wife, son and granddaughter, and I went to LFork for the weekend (Fri-Sun) for a short getaway. And what a getaway. The forecast was for light winds Sat so I knew that would be the day for fishing and it was. Just a beautiful early Fall day. We got on the water about 9:30am and putt-putted to the spot I had in mind. Idling is too fast for the wife. We finally got to the spot. The granddaughter had never fished much less been in a boat. She was very well-behaved. So I get to the spot. I had all rods ready to go but for one that was in the box with a cork. One of my favorite rods and I hesitated for a second and thought oh, what the heck. BTW, never open your rod box with Mrs. around. When she saw all the rods, she exclaimed, OMG look at all those rods. She doesn't understand, you can never enough fishing tackle. I knew there were two fall downs with a large brush pile and other structure in this spot. Since the lake is almost 6' low, several of the limbs were showing about a foot so I was able to tie up. The slight breeze positioned the boat exactly how I wanted to fish the spot. Of course, the first order after getting ready is to set up the granddaughter with my fav rod. Got it set for 10' with a slip bobber, in 15' hoping that would keep it out of the brush. I put on the minnow, place the line out and handed her the rod. As I was giving the rods to the others, I saw the cork slowly sinking, and told her she had a fish. Of course, she didn't know what to do having never fish so I told her (along with instructions from everyone else - all different) to raise the rod and to reel. What is 'reel'?. She didn't know which way to turn the handle. Ok, got that down, and she had difficulty turning it - and again, which way did you tell me to turn the handle? I saw the fish and knew it was a nice one; then we all got so excited. No net - it was in one of the storage boxes. And of course, two of us are standing on the lid. Finally, get it out, scooped the fish - missed, and then wallah, got it. It was the biggest fish of the day a 1.54lbs. Apologies for the long post - to proud to not tell all. BTW, caught a total of 13 keepers. Lake Fork, West arm, mid-lake, 15' fishing 10-12' using mainly minnows although I tipped a jig with minnows and caught some. Just a great day on the lake all around.

That is AWESOME, keep that girl fishing. Looking at your smiles that was a priceless moment.

WTG Paw Paw!! What a beautiful little Princess!! GREAT photo! Save that one to show her when she's 15! Then ask her, "Wouldn't you rather go fishin with Paw Paw than out with that smelly oL' boy?"
