This may need to be moved. I have a 10000 gallon lined koi pond. Two new snakes just showed up...one definitely a nonpoisonous diamond back water snake....the other is much darker, bigger girth, and head looked more angular....just caught a quick glimpse of him. Grandkids coming in a few weeks. Because of the lining, I can't shoot them.....any serious ideas? And they are definitely eating my small koi. I live in San Angelo.

Put you a small treble hook out on a line baited with a gold fish. If they are eating the koi, then they will eat the gold fish, they'll swallow it, you'll have it hooked when he does. Then send him on his way how ever you please.

Hire a Wildlife Control outfit to get them removed. I think Orkin has a wildlife control service.

How about San Angelo's animal control ?

Call the local animal control. They will send out a guy with a catch pole and remove them... Or snake shot does wonders

Go down to Field and Streams and get a snake catcher. Grab them and put them in an empty garbage can and take them to the river.

Retirement best job ever.

If you force the snake away from the bank. It will surface in deeper water then shoot it with a shot gun. Make it a game. Nothing comes easy. HA...

All those methods sounds good to me. Bait that treble hook with a small minnow and make it easy for the snake. Put several out at waters edge; not in deep water.

If you had some of my Minnow Scent you could just use a Vienna Sausage soaked in it. HA...

I called San Angelo animal control....still waiting on a call back. Called Parks and Wildlife..."sorry, we just register boats". Ordered a snake grabber today...but not sure i can get close enough to grab him as he dives when he sees me. I have watched all day to see where he hides..no luck. Ordered a fish/frog grabber also...spring loaded like we used when gigging frogs as a kid. Don, if all of this does not work, how do i order your minnow scent? Making a few calls tomorrow to see if any local trapper might help.

I was just joking Wirebender. Set those minnow lines all around the pond just lay the bait in the edge of the water. They will get it, if a raccoon doesn't get it first.

Hook them in the tail so the snake can take minnow by the head.

I doubt animal control will help in your situation. Supposedly if you will go out every day and several times a day with a large stick and tap or bang on the rocks all around your pond it will irritate the snakes and after awhile they will move on. I don't know what size pond it is or how many fish but if you could remove the food source for a short time into some tubs or something they will go elsewhere in search of food then you can put some repellant around the pond to keep them away.

I think if you got 2 snakes, as long as you have a pond it is something that you will always have to deal with.

Get a wooden box that has a lid you can latch and unlatch.Get one of the smallest real eggs you can find. Make a small hole that a snake can go into at one end of the box.Get some plastic small Easter eggs that are larger than the hole you made in the box.Put the real egg and the plastic eggs in the box.Place box in area where the snakes are likely to be.When the snake goes in to eat the eggs he will swallow the plastic egg and then can not exit the hole in the box without getting stuck..
