Me too. In the meantime I submitted a water sample to a local high school science department for testing by some fly fishing teachers I know there, and the results of testing the water on one of the most populous carp flats were, they said, "interesting." The long version is on the Texas Fly Caster website now - http://texasflycaster.com/texas-fly-fishing-monday-morning-fly-fishing-report-on-the-fall-sidewalk/ - but we all like Cliff's Notes right? Here it is in part: The lake sample I took was "low in conductivity" which didn't ring a bell for me, so I asked what that meant - "Low conductivity suggests its missing somethingperhaps calcium.used to build shells? Its probably too early to jump to that conclusion without further testing to identify what should and maybe shouldnt be there. These minerals do cycle seasonally as well and could be thrown off by zebra mussels or a huge influx of rain like we had last month."

So when I was very very into the euro carp fishing we used to take water testing kits with us when search for new carp waters, the more alkaline the water the more likely we where to catch trophy fish....Ray Roberts wouldn't even get a look from us as we were looking for average weights of 20lbs or better. That said its no shocker that it's low conductivity with the massive amounts of rainwater last month

I was out on Thursday, (had my days wrong!) --- and gave you a big wave. Knew it was you. I don't know that much about science, but some were saying that the rain tends to add solids, like calcium, by leaching it into runoff. Apparently, there should be plenty of calcium to go around anyway. My theory on that is; the water (from those 11-inches of rain recorded at Valley View) didn't travel far enough to pick up much sediment, and it rained (significantly) right on the lake as well. I like this graph - http://rayroberts.uslakes.info/Level.asp . Maybe because it's colorful. One other thing - that big rain was actually a couple months back now (time goes so fast).

For those of you that have been fishing for carp out there a long time, have you ever seen a rain/lake rise event like that in July before?

Well it's curious/cool that we are looking for answers in ph levels...we spent a lot of time with pool testing kits searching for productive trophy carp waters.
Cool subject.

This is a photo from Texasflycasters website. The boat in the front is the one I saw out there if I'm not mistaken. Help me out here Shannon.

Yup. That is the East Cape Skiff I was on - the Fury. Cool boat for sure, but well out of my price range. I am looking hard at an East Cape Glide, but it all hinges on my winter guide season in Oklahoma. The carp season was pretty much a disaster. That boat in the background is a Chittum - crazy expensive! You probably won't ever see another Chittum on Ray Roberts until the next tournament (maybe).

That Gluide looks a lot like my Jon boat. Although, the Gluide is prettier to look at.

Heck! We like the looks of carp, so that boat's pretty pretty to me.
LoneStarCarper - Tell me more about how those pool testing kits work, what do they tell you? (I never had a pool)

Capt Mac, That looks like a heck of a nice boat to me and should work well for several types of fishing
