I have been doing some saltwater fishing for about a year now. However, just recently I have started to do more and more of it and I have been using all my bass gear. I usually always fish from the bank but last time I fishing I did some bank fishing. I like my buddy's carrot stix as it is very light and super sensitive. He has like four of them and loves them, I know many will disagree and say they brake or whatnot. Anyways, I am trying to look for something similar, maybe a very light and sensitive rod. I can usually catch anywhere from 10 to maybe 60 trout a night and I fish all night long so I don't want something too heavy that will wear me out. Most of the trout I catch range from fairly small to maybe 18 inches so they are not that heavy. We only use lures. I typically always use braid, mono and flouro occasionally but rarely. I like Mirr-O-Lures alot and jerk baits but I do throw plastics. What rods do you all recommend for something that fits my needs. I would prefer something that isn't too heavy nor too light. I really liked my buddy's medium heavy carrot stix as it allowed me to move the jerk bait a fair amount of distance per jerk.

Thanks

lots of "saltwater" specific rods available today at Academy. Check All-Star, Castaway and others in the 7' medium action rods. Other places to check are BPS in Pearland and Fishing Tackle Unlimited in South Houston off 45 south. I'm sure there are other places. Bass rods in the 7' medium action will work all day also.

just looked at your location, so these places may not help. Good luck

I live in Kingsville and am a student at Tamuk working part time for minimum wage so I can't afford a high dollar rod... maybe an ethos?

I kind of want a castaway or a st. Croix but I'm gonna have to wait a couple weeks before I have saved enough.

Check out dawia rods. They have a few low priced rods that are very very nice for the money. The procyon in a 7' med/light or med would be a great one.

my son and i have been sold on the Ugly Stik 7' medium/light in a spinning rod format. we use them for trout and throw twin shad rigs at night under the lights. we can get good action on the jigs but from experience the pole has enough muscle/flex to pull in that rogue red or black drum swimming along. the narrow flexible sensitive tip helps for fish detection (bottom croaker fishing) and also making long casts (kind of a whip action)

Spinning or casting? I have some rods I don't use anymore that I will let go for real cheap.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I guess my budget is around $100 maybe a lil more for a new rod.

And FreeFall, I have sent you a pm…
