Hey guys I found a brand new heritage featherlite 9.5 sit in kayak that I can buy for only $160. I figured it would be a great first yak for my fiance and sounds like a good deal considering it's between $350 $399 depending on where you buy it. Has anyone had any experience with this kayak? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I bought one of these at Academy some 10-15 years ago and still have it, although I have added to my fleet since. I took it on a couple of 20-25 mile Brazos trips back when there was water and it performed just fine even if I did have to paddle a bit harder than my fellow adventurers. Obviously the seat and cockpit are comfortable enough. I still use it on the river occasionally because I can pick it up fully loaded (kayak is only about 40 lbs) and haul it up and down the terraces to get in/out. Limitations include keeping your body centered getting in and out (I've been thrown in 6" of water a couple of times) and 3 rods is about all that can be easily managed. I would say get it before it is gone. Even if your spouse-to-be doesn't like it, you will love it for spur-of-the-moment trips.

This is a kiddie kayak.
It is a SINK not SOT. If you are fishing you really need a SOT. Just because they slap a rod holder on it doesn't mean you'll want to fish from it.
It is much to short for most applications. Wiggle Waggle is going to be terrible.
It is only 30 inches wide and being only 9.5" long it is not going to be as stable as you'd like.
Cockpit is only 46" long. You would hurt myself getting in and out of this.
Save your money and look for better.

I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

It would be for my 5' 2 120lb fiance. It had great reviews on it. But I'm 6' 2 230 so it would definitely be a no go for me haha

I started with that very kayak around 9 years ago. It served me very well (even at 5-10 350+) for quite some time. At that price it will be a great starter yak for her. If you don't buy it send me the info, I'll buy it for my grand-daughters.

Have used the wife's one a few times. It is a very stable kayak even being top heavy @ 6'4 / 230. Great creek boat even for a big guy. I know guys who's crates weight more that it does. Only problem we had is there was some oil canning in the bottom, due to the idiot that had it improperly stored.
Buy it you may find your self using it.
