I know it's cheap, but I was wondering if this set up would be ok to start with. We want to fish for Bass, Crappie, Bluegill and maybe go trout fishing occasionally.

Maybe someone else will chime in because I do not know anything about the Cahill combo but I can tell you if you can afford to pay $40 more each they have the Wind River combo for $79.99 right now and that is a good rod and reel.

I'd aim a little higher IMO. Or look for a good starter used combo. There are many here that have sold starter combos.

HMK- if you have never fly fished before and are not sure if you will continue to do so or if the wife will, then I vote yes. looks like a good inexpensive way to get started, then if you like it upgrade. I started with a CHEAP Okuma set, bought 3 for me and my family. Glad I bought cheap because my wife and son do not fly fish.

I have since upgraded to the Cabelas Three Forks rod and like it

Common Sense has become so rare that it should be considered a super power

5 wt. if the bass are small and you enjoy a fun fight. 6 wt for more backbone on medium to larger bass. I believe a 6 wt is easier to cast for a newbie IMO but some of these pros can chime in on that. 5 wt is the go to trout size and more 5 wts are sold than any other size.
