Ok TFFers, this is basic 101 stuff. When you add new line, how many of you walk you rod and reel down the street and as you reel your line tight wave at the neighbors as they look at you curiousy?

How many of you use Line Conditioner?

How many of you backfill the spool with a lesser expensive line?

What other techniques do you use to spool your line?

Line conditioner Yes, KVD

Yes I backfill to save money

Heard on here once to put the spool in the livewell. I've done it and it worked for me. So I did it in my bathroom sink the other day it also worked (do not know if its a smart idea so go easy on me guys)

Full spool of Seagar only and after first sign of wear I turn the line. I believe in no conditioner along with on my cranking rods if I break off to cut off 10ft. or if I don't trust it respool. I just wish abraz c would get cheaper.

backfill with cheap 20lb mono and use KVD line conditioner. No need to walk down the street with your fishing pole...

I use backing and conditioner. Also line stored in house in a bag in dark closet.

Big Game off Big Spools. Rarely use anything else. No backing. Spool the reel off the rod on a line spooler I made out of one of the Berkley ones that broke. Re-spool any rod that's been thrown much before any tournament. Keep the line inside out of the heat and light. every once in a while I will use Ardent Line Butter or very lightly oil the reel.

Generally use backing, KVD conditioner on flourocarbon(Invizx) and I usually stretch my line by walking it down the sidewalk and tying off to a fire plug, stretch, then release and reel it back on loose so any twists will come out reeling in.

So, few peeps see the need to stretch the line tight as you are spooling. Interesting, I thought by doing so, I was preventing back loops and deeper backlashes.

For me, stretching my InvisX just makes it easier to use. It lays off the rod tip better. 2cents

1. No conditioner. Buy a line that's limp. Just another product to keep up with.
2. I never take all the line off. After the initial spooling, only strip off 60 yards or so when you change line.

3. I use a label maker to make labels of each pound test that I use. I wrap that just above the handle on each rod.
This tells me at a glance which pound test is on that rod.

Some of the rod manufacturers are now putting a dial that you can adjust in the butt of the rod so you can keep track of the weight of the line. They were introduced at this year's ICAST. Seems like a product that you would like.

I rarely use conditioner but will in really cold weather. I use backing on my spools of the rods I use for pitching/flipping. I rarely use backing on a rod that is used for casting like cranks/spinnerbaits/topwater.

Years back each spool of stern used to come with little stickers that had the test on it, I would stick them on the reel.

I wish line companies still put those little stickers in the box.

If I've got something rigged I can remember what line I'm usif by the application. No need to stick it on the rod.

But on spare reels I sometimes forget what I have on them.

I change my reels around what rods they are on depending on application. So I'd rather keep track by marking on the reel than the rod.
