Anyone fished much in Georgia or have any info about it? Salt or freshwater. I'm moving to Atlanta for almost a year and would appreciate any suggestions or advice.

I don't know anything about it personally but I do know that The Fish Hawk in Atlanta is reputed to be a heck of a good fly shop and those guys will be able to point you in a few directions.

Check out the Chattahoochee River for trout. It's just north of ATL. I was in Alpharetta for week, and that was a awesome looking river. http://alpharettaoutfitters.com/ is another shop you can get some pointers from.

The fly-fishing in saltwater on the GA coast isn't very good for a variety of reasons that all collide there, but the conventional gear guys do really well. The water is VERY dirty and there's a LOT of current.
The freshwater fishing in GA is very good. You'll find that the fly-fishing crowd dominates the rivers and creeks while the gear folks dominate the lakes, especially in the N half of the state. There is pretty good trout fishing in much of far north GA, but it is better across the state line in TN and NC. Great Shoal Bass fishing in several streams. Excellent LMB fishing in many lakes and ponds and swamps. Striper fishing in the Savannah River and along the coasts of NC and SC (not much different to drive to the NC or SC coast as it is to drive to the GA coast from ATL). Saltwater fly-fishing gets MUCH better as soon as you cross the Savannah River into SC or the St. Marys River into FL. It's amazing how different it is so quickly.
Some of the lakes produce very large Stripers and the biggest LMB are in the ponds and swamps. Remember: the world record LMB was caught in GA many years ago.
You will find GA anglers tend to be pretty tight-lipped and competitive compared to Texans. You will also find yourself always worrying about your vehicle at the launch or trail head...esp if it has TX plates on it.
Finally, you will quickly learn why GA rarely has a state budget deficit. The taxes and fees are HIGH, although Texas is quickly catching up in terms of licenses, permits, etc. to hunt/fish/boat public land and waterways. But I'm talking about property taxes and sales tax and such.

Check out the Georgia Wild Trout site, they have more information than you will find anywhere else about fly fishing and trout fishing in Georgia. American Fly Fishermen also has a few great articles on the different rivers and creeks in Georgia.
