I didn't even know that there was such a thing as a pompano run.
Does this happen in the galveston area.

They're being caught up and down PINs from what I've been reading. I'll be there this weekend to try and catch some.

What is a good bait? We have never caught but saw a guy catching them and he said they were great to eat. We will be there this weekend.

I've heard most people use a small 2/0 circle hook(mouth is small) and use peeled fresh dead shrimp and a fishbite. People who regularly catch Pompano on PINS swear by this.

Academy sells Berkley Gulp baits that are very much like Fish Bites. Some Academies in Corpus also sell the Fish Bites, but I haven't found them. They come in Shrimp, Crab and Squid flavors. They work great and stay on the hook for quite a while. Shrimp is the best for Pompano.

Hot Rod, Maybe I will run into ya. I will be fishing the surf almost all weekend due to the LOW tide. I will be fishing anywhere from 10-30 miles down the PINS. Pompano will be the target. I will meet up with trout at least one day and will be fishing with a few other guys from the site on the others. I also look to get into a few flounder. So many fish to catch and so little time. I will deff. be on the beach all day friday and saturday.

You would take I think it is highway 361 past the packery and take a left at the light. After a few miles, you will see signs and the bob hall pier. I got out a little this morning and it looks nice out. I havent done any fishing yet but will here in a bit after lunch. I have caught Pompano off the north jetty on live shrimp, that would be almost as easy for you as driving the beach.

If anyone is out tomorrow, stop and say hello. Trout and I will be out somewhere along PINS. Conditions will not be as good as they were today but should still be doable. We will be in a red explorer, hope we dont get stuck.
ALso, fishing was good today before the wind picked up. Caught LOTS of BIG whiting and trout on plastics.. TOO CRAZY. I have never caught a whiting on plastics till today and it was one after another. Once the wind picked up and the waves grew, the fishing slowed a way down, I think the tide had something to do with it because I did notice the tide had started to come up. See ya on the water and good luck

No Pomps today, we got sidetracked... Troutkiller and I put a hurtin on the smacks and trout today. Report later. Will be out again tomorrow morning, same place but this time will not be hunting pomps. We will be in a red jeep between 14 and 24 mile marker. There are only a few markers posted, so we use the odometer to know our locations. Good luck to the rest of you guys down here. Oh, one more tip. Lucky Craft lures and river2sea lures were the key to todays success.

I have been catching several while fishing for whiting (bait for bull reds) at 61 street pier. At the academy in galveston they have a sabiki rig with small rubber shrimp (5) on the line, I sommetimes add a small piece of shrimp to the hook and catch EVERYTHING on this. If it swims the beach they bite on this. Only problem is any big fish can break they leaders pretty easy.
