Just an FYI. I would do a search on Lithium and check out those results. But if I was a guessing man, you will not find very many, if any at all on this forum that in fact have Lithium batteries. Hence the search. Lot's of talk about them but cost is way to high to justified and then you have to worrying about $ for another charger.
I like the main fact that they are lighter and can remove all that extra weight from the rear of the boat, but cannot justify the cost.

I doubt you'll find anyone on here who is using Lithium batteries that they had to pay for. You might try asking some of the pros who are given Lithium batteries.
Coincidence is His way of remaining anonymous.

I know 2 people who have them, at a price of $5k + I do not see that big of advantage over "old school" batteries....

I would go to the 2cooler forum as there seems to be several posts regarding installations on some of the flats boats used in the bays. Hope I didn't break and unwritten rule by mentioning another forum. Good luck.

I know you are asking about big lithium batteries, but I use a very small one to run FF and LED lights. It's great--1.2lbs and fits in my hand. Purchased one of these Lithium Ion batteries from Amazon. 8Ah and weighs 1.2 lbs. Amazingly small and 1.2lbs with four terminals--using it to run FF and LED lights.

Lithium Batteries are coming. Still a way to go before the price comes down the same path. I suspect we will see them as standard equipment in less than 10years.

Ive been looking at lithium batteries ever since the started coming out in power tools. Unfortunately just as the tools were high marine lithium batteries are crazy expensive. I agree with SkeeterDon and Fouzman in that its only the pros or well off that are using them in their boats. They do have some nice advantages. I wish the price would drop quick like with dvd players

I think the price of them will eventually have to drop or the manufacturers will go broke.

I am running four Lithium batteries. Had them about 2 years . No problem. Two of my buddies also run them. Some are going on 3-4 years old with no problems. We are running the Smart Batteries.

They are 100ah. We have a buddy that's running 80s and he says he cant run those down. I have fished in some heavy wind and used the trolling motor all day with no problem. You cant even tell you have used any of the battery at the end of the day.

Can a lithium battery be used as the starting battery for the outboard? If this is OK, then will the outboard charging system damage or be able to charge the lithium battery? If you cannot charge the lithium with the outboard motor, do you need to remove or inactivate the outboard charging system? Thanks in advance.

1. Can a lithium battery be used as the starting battery for the outboard? 2. If this is OK, then will the outboard charging system damage or be able to charge the lithium battery? 3. If you cannot charge the lithium with the outboard motor, do you need to remove or inactivate the outboard charging system? Thanks in advance. 1. Yes 2+3 Yes, but not ideal Quoted from BMI/Lifetech 2009 Many of the lead acid chargers can be used to charge a LiFePO4 pack but there can be problems. Most often the problem is the end of charge voltage for the lithium pack is higher than that of an equivalent nominal voltage lead acid pack. You need to work on an end of charge voltage of 3.65-4V per cell for the lithium pack (depending on manufacturers specs) and check that the lead acid charger will reach this end voltage. The main issue is that due to the flat CC/CV charge/discharge curves of the lithium pack, if the lead acid charger is only a few volts under the recommended lithium battery end of charge voltage, the lithium pack may fall well short of full / 100% charge when the lead acid charger is used and thus you will not be able to fully recharge the pack. It is recommended to charge a Lithium battery with a "lithium" charger
