The Tutti Fruitti fly was designed for False Albacore, Little Tunny and other small tuna like fish found up and down the east coast.

Bright and simple; that ought to work well for bass as well.

Someday or another maybe. The instructor tied this one at meeting Wednesday night, but my wife wanted to use my vice to follow along, so I just watched and then when I got home, I tied it.

Do you attend a fly tying class?

Sort of. There are several of us that meet at the Backwoods store in Fort Worth on Wednesday night. We all chat and discuss the weeks fishing reports. The owner then Ty's a fly and we try to follow along. We have a great time. You're welcome to join us anytime. I've met some really nice folks there.

Sounds like a good time. I sure wish I lived closer.

HMK - Just for your own personal enjoyment, the name for that color combo is 'electric chicken. Also, that particular style of clouser minnow, with the hair all tied in on top, is known as a 'high-tie' clouser. Just in case the tier didn't mention either of those snippets smile

I like learning all the little details that all come together to make a fly, and I figured you might be that way too!

I like the sparseness if your tie, it definitely has a chance to hook a tuna. All the bonito and little tunny I've caught have required a super sparse fly that closely mimics the practically invisible juvenile fish they were feeding on.

Thank you for the information. Yes, I like knowing those details. He mentioned it being a type of Clouser, but I don't remember him mentioning it being a high-tie Clouser. I've heard of electric chicken, but didn't know why it was named that. I saw some crappie jigs called electric chicken. Now, I know it's a color combo. Again, thanks a bunch! So much to learn. I am really having a great time with this hobby.

here is a little more tidbit.

tutti frutti is a color combo of pink (belly) over chartreuse (back)
electric chicken is chartreuse (belly) over pink (back)

i doubt the fish care. but overall pink/chartreuse can be great dirty/muddy water combo

Example of 'electric chicken' soft plastics found Here and Here and Here and that's all I'm gonna say smile To Casey's credit I found Tutti Fruitti clousers for sale in the same color combo as what I call electric chicken, so there seems to be some disagreement within the larger fishing community as to which is which.

Turns out that particular Clouser color combo (tied a bit more thickly) is also a killer for silver salmon in Alaska.

pink over chartreuse is electric chicken...

"over" means the pink is the back and the chartreuse is the belly

it shouldn't be confusing... you wouldn't say "over" if you meant "under"

NONETHELESS -

Pink and chartreuse. I've never seen a fish that color, although some get pretty close. And yet, it catches fish.

Good thing they don't argue over color combo names... or do they? I can imagine two big ol' brown trout having that conversation.
