Those of you who build your own brush piles, is there a design or material for making artificial brush piles that seem to work well? I understand that location has a lot to do with how many crappie/bait fish are attracted to the BP but I was wondering what material works best.

We prefer and have had best success using willow trees with 5 gallon bucket of concrete on bottom and one jug tied to top to keep tree upright, like you said location is very important.

Your gonna get a lot of suggestions on this one. Natural material works well but will break down over time (except Bois-de-arc). Pvc will last but may not show up on your fish finder well. You just have to weigh the pros and cons of all the available material. But you hit the nail on the head with location. There needs to be something very nearby that holds fish such as a creek, drop off, hump, etc....
To whom much is given, much is required.

I placed some in my slip area last October. Three months later I could see them on my fish finder, which is a HB 597ci hd di.

I've seen in a magazine where some were built using the 4" black flexible irrigation tubing. I believe TPWD was doing a study on artificial fish attracters with the study taking place in a couple of lakes in south Texas. I haven't seen any report on how those performed in attracting fish. Has anyone tried the irrigation tubing?

I like and dislike artificial Christmas trees. Seems like every year somebody on my street is upgrading and throwing out the old tree, which I get for free. The twisted metal 'branches' and plastic 'needles' last a long time, and hold a lot of fish, but they snag jigs easily.

Yeah you might have to wait a while but Christmas trees that people throw out are good and free, and like everyone said just fill a five gallon bucket full of concrete probably multiple buckets haha

Here is my baby. Inherited her from my Uncle Victor who bought it new. Would be more convenient to have a newer boat, but I had a lot of respect for that man. I keep her running in part to honor him. The trailer you can see is home-made. It was first registered in the State in 1952. You get a break on licensing fees if you have an antique car, no such luck if you have an antique trailer. TPWD does not give you a break either.
