In general fishing has been pretty tough all around the austin area. This cooler weather and rain will get them going soon though. Bastrop is a great lake to fish, as for pointers I havent been on that lake in months but typically you can catch them on grass edges and pockets in the grass.

thanks fellas,
Lake austin was recommended by co-worker so probably try that since it's closer. He also told me about a place south where you can put in and pay a guy a couple of bucks to take you back to truck. Just curious about this spot also. Kind of excited about this weather hoping things might turn on a little. Is there a good hybrid/striper/white lake in area. I was pretty spoiled there on eagle mountain in ft worth with the whites.
thanks,
Kyle

A few of the top 50 largest TX stripers were pulled out of Lake Austin including a 34lber last month. I don't think there are a ton of stripers in there but if you hook into one it's probably going to give you a pull.

that's exciting....one more question for you guys. I want to check out canyon lake soon. A little concerned with depth and recreational boaters though. That was the one thing I was happy to get away from in dfw was the fishing pressure and the traffic. Is there a more shallow area of the lake. I'm only familiar with the dam side.
thanks,
Kyle

The boat traffic on Lake Austin can be insane and not fisherman friendly...best for early mornings and night. The north end of canyon lake into the river will be good for stripers in the early spring and it's kayak friendly.
