Just wondering, what are the requirements to drive a bass boat? Or any boat. I'm 18 almost 19, and need to know if it's just an age thing or if I need a certificate, kinda like you need hunters ed to hunt.

BaylorLipRipper is wrong on this one. From the TPWD website:
Who must take a Boater Education Certification Course?
Anyone born on or after September 1, 1993 who wishes to operate certain vessels on the public waterways of Texas. See Texas Water Safety Act for details
Boating courses are taught by US Coast Guard Auxiliary, US Power Squadron and trained volunteer instructors, as well as teachers, and game wardens.

Ok, that's why I get confused, there are other website that are legitimate sites that have said anyone over 17 is legal as well. But that's why I asked thanks

I think it was changed fairly recently (2013), but on their site it goes into detail on the subject. § 31.109. Boater Education Course Required for Certain Persons (a) This section applies only to a person who is: (1) born on or after September 1, 1993; and (2) operating on the public water of this state: (A) a vessel powered by a motor with a manufacturers rating of more than 15 horsepower; or (B) a windblown vessel over 14 feet in length. (b) A person subject to this section must have in the persons possession a photographic identification card and either: (1) a boater identification card issued by the department; or (2) proof of completion of the requirements to obtain a vessel operators license issued by the United States Coast Guard. (c) The department shall issue a boater identification card to a person who has successfully completed: (1) a boater education course approved by the department; or (2) a course equivalency examination approved by the department. (d) A boater identification card issued to a person who has successfully completed a boater education course or course equivalency examination does not expire. (e) If, on or before the trial of a person charged with an offense for failing to possess a document required under Subsection (b), the person produces for the court or the prosecuting attorney a document required by Subsection (b) that was issued to the person and was valid at the time of the offense, the court shall dismiss the charge. That's the most up to date information on the subject, but I don't know how strict the enforcement of it is since I've never been asked about it.

I know a kid traded his dirt bike for a little skeeter boat, no way to get it to the lake unless his friends pull it.. I told him the same thing, but I used the "horse before the cart". lol
He did take his boater safety course.

So, I guess I am breaking the law when I let my 6 year old drive the boat (200HP Merc powered) for a couple minutes while idling out of the no wake zone after launching?

You do NOT have to have a drivers license to drive a boat...just an ID card and completion of the boater's safety course.

Take the boaters-ed course. Its a pain in the butt however there is really good information on it. Another plus is the commentary lady is really hot.

There is a JR in our bass club that has his own skeeter...he started his own business when he was 12 (lawn service) and pays the payment himself. His dad is his "co-angler" and takes the boat to the lake...but once they are on the lake he runs the boat and everything. He's a darn good fisherman too!!
Good luck, as stated, take the course...the discount on your insurance is worth it.
