Totally new to carp fishing. I caught a small carp today 3-4 lbs maybe in a pond behind La Hacienda fishing with my 7 year old daughter. I used a simple slip shot about 2' above a hook full of corn. I threw out some sweet corn to chum the waters around where I was set up. I caught a fish within 10 minutes then nothing. What would y'all recommend to keep catching them? I heard when stressed they signal other carp and they leave the area.

Well done. Keep refreshing your area of chum. They can flat clean out a baited area in a hurry. Don't worry much about the other fish being scared off unless in a shallow small area.

Your daughter will have a blast with these rascals. It was my son when he was 9 years old that was my inspiration to take up carp angling. If she is like myself or my son she is squimesh of angling with live bait or cut, so I narrowed down the possible species down to carp and buffalo that could be easily captured and released on corn with absolutely no gut hooking, especially with a hair rig. There probably wans'nt many carp in the area. They are more likely to tell their buddies that food is in the area.Good luck!
