I build a custom jig that holds all the 5 senses that a big bass is looking for.
Let me know if you would like to take a look at the Baby Doll Jig.

Not sure about Houston, never fished there. Closest I've been to fishing Houston is fishing the Colorado River in Austin. Amazing stretch of river at that.

For Structure, Denny Brauer rattling jig
For swim jig, KVD or Hack attack
For Football Jig, Buckeye Football Mop Jig
trailer can be any one of a horde of soft plastics
Color is optional, but you can never beat Black/blue or Green pumpkin as starters
Get started with football jig out in main lake points with good cover to get the hang of it and then work your way up to pitching structure jig into stumps, lay downs, rocks etc...

Most jigs will do the job, the best jig is the one that you have the most confidence in. Which only comes with time spent on the water. good luck
