Memory is a funny thing. I have been married for 42 years to the same wonderful woman. But when she says, "Terry do you remember . . . blah blah?" Sometimes I get that 1000 yard stare. I don't have a very good poker face. But I do remember some of the important things, like . . . I remember where I caught my first striper, it was with my old high school football coach on Keystone Lake in Oklahoma, 1974, fishing a Hell Bender. The most sandbass I have ever caught at one time, with my wife Patsy, Oologah Lake, night fishing 1979. My recall on memorable fishing trips is almost impeccable. It is funny, the things we retain in our memory and those moments that are wrapped up in the cobwebs of our minds. Someone once said, "Time moves in one direction, memory in another." But one memory we all share is 9-11, it is burned into our collective consciousness. 13 years and two wars ago, I remember standing in front of the TV in Rowlett Texas trying to figure out how a pilot could make such a drastic mistake of flying into a tower that was so big. The world changed for me when the second plane hit the tower. Today we honor our fallen first responders by remembering. We honor those who are fallen by showing respect to those first responders who live and walk among us today. I always look forward to those "Wounded Warrior" projects. A few years ago, we had the opportunity here on Lake Ray Hubbard to take a "Wounded Warrior" fishing. JV, ran this tournament and the turnout was great. One of the things that stood out to me was the diversity of those we took fishing. They were men and women from all sorts of backgrounds. It was a day I will never forget. Bullets and bombs don't discriminate between colors, age or sex. But neither do the fishes. They don't care how old we are, what we look like, where we come from or what type of boat we have. That is the great thing about fishing, it is a level playing field and the fish don't care. When I asked the two wounded soldiers (they were young women)what they liked about fishing, both responded it was "nice to get away, sit and do nothing but fish". We all share in that, "fishing is a place where we can unwind, disconnect and put the world on hold". Where were you on 9-11?

I was on my way from Sulphur Springs to Terrell .I had job building Colonial Lodge Assisted Living Center. Heard Report of First Plane on radio. Got To job site and turned on TV in construction Trailer Called in Crew and we saw Second Plane Hit. WILL NEVER FORGET - DONT FORGET WHO DID IT ,

I was at work in Frisco. Me and a buddy fished Lewisville that same afternoon and I remember how weird it was with no planes in the sky. Normally there's planes all over the sky out there. Just surreal how quiet it was.

I was coming home from a business trip and I was on the runway of LaGuardia airport when the pilot came on the loudspeaker and said for those of you sitting on the left side of the plane you can see a plane crashed into the world trade center. We ended up pulling back in and they evacuated the airport and my coworker and I walked across the street to a Marriott. I remember looking up and seeing only one tower as we crossed grand central. We quickly rented a car and connected with an American pilot and a bible salesman from Tulsa and tried the rest of the day to get off the island with no luck. I remember driving east on the long island express way and no traffic was heading into the city except for emergency vehicles one after another. We spent Wednesday in Montauk LI sight seeing because no planes were flying yet. We ended up driving home on Thursday. 2300 miles on a rental car and no drop off fee. I remember much more details of that week long adventure but needless to say I don't want to relive it again.

Color Theory Class Final at the Art Institute of Houston. They cancelled the test and closed the building. Most buildings over 2 stories closed that day. I worked for 5* event staff, and had to work security at the Law Building at U of H that night. Only time I have ever seen an empty I-10 in Houston during any hour before 3 AM or after 4 AM, not counting the morning after evacuations from Hurricane Rita. For that we waited until the road was clear as far as the overpass cameras would go west.

At work got call in to the Gen Mgr's office and wondered oh my God what did I do, he had a small TV and we watched it there in Rowlett and let everyone who had a computer watch it all day.

On big T and my mom called and I thought surely not. Soon we saw stealth bombers among others go over the lake and I turned to my guys and said "looks like it really did happen" I had never seen so many military aircraft cross the lake in such a short time.

I was working that day driving down the road. As soon as heard I got to a TV and just watched, think not in the USA. Good write up Terry.

Just a few pics of one of the coolest things I have ever been a part of. I was responsible for getting the lunch together after the fishing. All I did was mentioned it to my dock neighbors and they took the idea and ran with it!! It was a great couple days doing this for some deserving men and women. Thanks Terry for mentioning this day.

I was working for minyard food stores and the wife called to tell me about the first plane and as we were talking the 2nd plane hit and I will never forget the sound in her voice as now it was realized this was no accident. Very very sad day

i was just getting home from graveyard shift at edgewater casino in laugglin NV. when i left work all i heard was a plane hit one of the twin towers. by the tine i got home reality hit when i reallized that multiple planes hit and was not some kind of accident. what a tragic day. but never had i seen so many Americans come together where differences didnt matter.

I was in the Senate Hart building on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. I felt that I was in the middle of the bullseye until the passengers took down that plane in Pennsylvania. I spent the next three days in a hotel 2 blocks from the Whitehouse, watching the Pentagon burn from my hotel window. Snipers walked the roof lines and fighter jets flew patrol the entire time. The town shut down and the streets were deserted at night. Very errie. I joined a candlelight vigil march on the Whitehouse that night, to show support.

Good write up amd good topic, Terry. I have good memories on most major events especially this historic day. I was in between jobs in the telecom industry. It was Tuesday morning I went to check my email on my PC and saw the breaking news on yahoo about a passenger plane crashing into one of the towers. I didn't click on the link cuz I had go to drop my son (Max's age at the time) to grandma so I can finish up my in-wall intertaiment center I was building for the living room. Drove half way to grandma at Arapaho and Jupiter and heard about the second plane. Dropped off son, got home and watched the news most of the day in disbelief.

Evil sucks! They didn't know they only made us stronger. You can't destroy an idea or belief calls FREEDOM. I had the good fortune to visit ground zero two summers ago and saw an even taller and more beautiful building there now called the FREEDOM TOWER

Was at work at the Metro Dallas hub that morning wrapping up my package car to head out to the route when a co-worker came down the box line saying that his wife just informed him that 'a large passenger plane just hit one of the Twin Towers with mass casualties' ... As I made it out to the route which at the time was at Lemmon Ave and Mockingbird Ln area I started hearing bits and pieces of what may had happened. As the day went on I remembered that several businesses started closing one by one!! It wasn't till I took my lunch break at 3 o'clock (at the Topcat restaurant on Lemmon ave) when it really started to sink in.. Just a real eery and quiet afternoon to say the least... Blue thanks for making this a thread ...... Yes sir! I remember.

On a flight out of Seattle headed for Dallas. They had just finished breakfast service (metal utensils)when pilot announced we had been ordered to return to Seattle.
