Did you accidently turn off the sonar?

Check your unit settings and/or do a Default setting.

His posted images are from playing back a recording on his computer with HumViewer software. HumViewer displays the full unfiltered data, not adjusted by the unit settings. Changing the color will do just that, it doesn't affect the image quality. That has to be done with the HumViewer settings.

Shut-up-and-fish: I have an 898si/di and when using it I can get 4ft for depth and then all of a sudden the transducer will go to 0ft and I know I'm in 10ft of water. The transducer does this all the time now and the transducer is 3years old. Everything else works great. I'm taking this as the transducer is going bad am I correct on this? Thanks for your help.

What transducer are you using for 2D sonar?

Not completely but:
If the glitch occurs when sitting still, you have a possible failing transducer.
If you have the SI transducer mounted to give you on-plane depth readings and have that issue when underway, you may just have to adjust its attitude on the transom.

Did you do the install of the Humminbird and know all the parts used for that installation?

Wayne P; The transducer starts out at 4ft and with in 50 ft it will change to 0ft, It will stay that way till you get on plane and then goes back to 4ft and then another short distance it'll change back to 0ft. Yes I did the install and when I went to put the transducer on I mounted it on a transducer shield& saver. I leveled the transducer and mount before I tighten it down and then releveled it again to make sure everything was correct. I then took it to the lake at which time everything worked great. Thanks for your in put and knowledge. Larry. By the way hummingbird say the 898s1/d1 takes a XHS HDSI 180T transom mount transducer. Thanks again.

Where exactly on the transom did you attach the SI transducer?

Did you read the PM I sent you?

Wayne P: The transducer is on the jackplate on the left side looking from the front.

OK, I will resend it. It is in my message file.

NOW, with the transducer on the jackplate, when you are moving, the amount of water on the transom gets less as you go faster. When on plane it is not in the water so it cannot give you depth.

If the PM makes it this time, it will explain the proper setup for your boat.
