Earlier this year I met up with a bass fisherman and took him carping. As a result, he has been gradually accumulating all the carp gear he needs and so far is doing a good job of buying right first time. He is now at the stage where he is looking to getting some decent baitrunners - and has a maximum budget of $200 max per reel.

I've had my Shimanos and Daiwas for years so I have been out of the market too long to give him any dependable advice.

Without spending more than he has to, can anyone provide advice on which ones he should be reviewing ?
(I suppose I could search through previous threads but I'm too lazy violin!!)
I'd appreciate any advice, thanks.

Okuma ABF 90 has decent line capacity. Great value for the cost, the ABF's I have, performed a lot better than my Penn slammer for less than 1/2 the cost.

PB common = 41 lbs
PB mirror = 22.5 lbs
PB buff = 26 lbs

I am an Okuma fan. Either the epixor baitfeeder (I have 6) or the cedros. Both are available with the bait feeder feature.

X2, been using a set of 4 for 2 years, no issues and plenty of power. Took them to the coast last fall for bull reds.

Hey Capt'n. From what I have researched about a year ago $200 is the amount to almost get truly great reel but not quite. When your talking money like this it's a pretty big decision for most of us and for a bit more $250 -$350 puts you in that range of reels that would really get'er done. One aspect to think about is whether or not you want to use braid or not cause some reels are better than others for braid, You need a reel designed for a thin diameter line and fly's off the reel with little resistance or you will get more wind knots. Not familiar with the Penn reel that duck speaks of. There's a lot to know about reels. Keith T and Pondbass are a couple of wiseguys about these things. If I can't have the best glad I cheaped out on my Okuma abf 50's for $34 shipped to my door.Heard good things about the longcast shimanos Scott speaks of.Cheers!

Thank y'all for your input, I appreciate the advice.
